Need blind?

You must remember even if a school is not need blind, American citizens are eligilbe to a combination of Pell grants (federal government) state grants or tuition aid plans or federally subsidized/ unsubsidized loans for almost the entire cost of tuition if this is the route they want to take. However federal loan are not an option for international students so unless a school has a large endowment to offer scholarships, or merit money, the international studen tmust be able to prove that they can pay for education.

Well, technically they are not need blind for all internationals. However they are very generous with admissions regardless of the ability to pay. I bet they do turn down many applicants because of aid, however they have admitted many students with substantial need.

Sugee - your son’s potential schools seem to be vey highly ranked for the most part…i’m sure there’s a wealth of schools that are quite likely to offer merit scholarships. don’t some schools offer such scholarships in advance to outstanding students before they even apply?

Seeker,

My son has not got any advance offers.

But there were many colleges that sent brochures which gave a chart containing money given according to a combo of class-rank, sat scores and GPA. I am sure at least some of them would extend the same to Intls also. The state and public universities usually would not easily extend such money to Intls, but private ones often do. I do not have an immediate recollection of those colleges. My son wants to go to a larger school, therefore we could not seriously look at many of them.
