Anybody know of a good book about art AND literature? Any time period is OK. Would prefer British or US…but anything European would probably be OK.

Need to give it as a gift. Would prefer hardcover, and would prefer to spend $50 or less…but…tough to be in that price range for a hardcover artbook.

Hmmm. That’s a tough one. How about a good biographical art book or autobiographical. Other than that suggestion, I would go to Amazon and put art and literature in the search feature. Good luck!

I gave this book to my husband for Valentine’s Day – it is small (about 5" x 6"), but it is about 800 pages. It matches Greek and Roman Myths with art work, paintings, sculptures, mosaics that illustrate the Myth. It is a beautiful little book and a very nice reference source for anyone who needs to pick out an mythological figure in either art or literature. I should warn you, it is not typical coffee table book, more of reference work, but my husband keeps it in the bathroom! I paid about $20 for it at Barnes and Noble, and there is another couple in the series on Angels and Saints, but I don’t like them as well.

Well, I don’t know if this is the kind of thing you were looking for but it explains an awful lot of slightly esoteric terms he may find from time to time in his reading. It’s fun to browse through – but get used to having bits read out to you!

The 18th Edition is said to be very good…mine is older.

Well, it’s very helpful when you are trying to remember things like ‘Who got seduced by a Swan?’ and ‘what are the Lily-white Seventh?’ Maybe as an extra present?
