Need dishwasher recommendations

The old dishwasher of 11 years has just about kicked the bucket. Any recommendations out there for a good (ie, quiet and cleans well) dishwasher in the 350-400.00 price range?

I’ve looked around and thus far the Bosch (#SHE4AP02UC) 23.5 inch and the Maytag JetClean (#MDB7749AWW) seem to be pretty good bets at around 400.00 a piece.

Thanks in advance.

bosch, bosch, bosch… I love my bosch… it is so quiet… and if you can get it at that price go for it… I plan on getting another bosch when this one goes… and the top of the line one next time… I hear it is virtually silent…

Lots more recommendations in this thread from last month

I started that thread, but in the end we were able to repair our beloved 17 year old dw. See hint there, such as clearing clogged sprayer arm holes. Oh - also see threads discussing the lack of cleaning power on the newer phosphate free dw detergents. (Some folks replace their dw and still find dishes not clean like they used to be).

A lot of people like Bosch. The model we saw in Best Buy lacked a feature I wanted (I think crud-grinding), but I hear they are very quiet.

Thanks for the advice!

The weirdest thing happened. I called Lowes for a price quote/stock check earlier in the day on the Maytag, and they were so busy they had to take my number and call me back. Well, when I finally spoke with the sales woman, I decided we would just wait a little longer, as the darn thing is still limping along, and quite honestly we are having a new washing machine delivered tomorrow and the wallet is hurting a bit right now. I was thinking maybe next month…until we got a call at 9pm from Lowes. They offered to take off another 10 percent if we ordered tonight! So, I am getting a new dishwasher after all! I would NEVER have guessed that Lowes would call me back and offer to drop the price, especially since it was marked down 15 percent for the Memorial Day holiday…

So, for all you shoppers, be advised that this can happen! It’s not just the car dealers who will call you after you walk out!

We have been absolutely thrilled with our Whirlpool. In addition to performing like a dw should, we feel good knowing it is American owned and American made. While I would not say that our way of thinking is the only way, we prefer to keep Americans working when we can.

younghoss - Would you mind posting your Whirlpool model (if not already in the other dw threads)? I’ll need it someday, and others will benefit too.

shellz - That’s interesting info on the Lowe’s deal. I wonder if they have holiday weekend quotas/incentives for the managers. We bought our refrigerator at Lowe’s last Labor Day weekend. It was a basic Frigidaire, but with excellent Consumer Report rating. It was discountinued/discounted, plus holiday discount, plus they were VERY quick to give another 10% off when we found a slight dent (in an area hidden but the counters).
