Please share any fun Christmas games for a mixed age group (12-83). Our celebration is smaller than usual this year, and I think a game or two could be fun. Not looking for board/bought game ideas but other Christmas/holiday games. Thanks in advance.
Charades, of course.
We’ve also played Quiplash, on jackboxtv.com. it is very funny, and anyone can play if they have/can use a smartphone.
I only played it once years ago, but there’s a game called Heads Up that you use your phone for.
We always play bingo at my parents house at Thanksgiving. The little kids love to call the numbers and there are prizes for the winners.
The hardest I ever laughed during a family game was the free game Salad Bowl - great fun for all ages…How to play Salad Bowl, the free party game | The Nerdy
Not a game - we always have family gingerbread house decorating - crosses all generations and whenever i say “maybe this year we won’t do it” - I get a lot of push back. We even did it over Covid with judging from everyone’s different locations that year over Zoom. This year I am shaking it up and bought giant gingerbread men vs houses - will see how that goes over.
Christmas Phrase Word Game
Everyone gets paper and pen.
Pick a word phrase like
“Abasket Family Christmas Bash”
Everyone writes this at the top of their paper and has three minutes to make as many 3 or more letter words as they can using letters in the phrase. A word can only have duplicate letters if there are those many duplicate letters in the phrase. A small prize for the winner.
I bought these ice breaker Christmas coasters, thinking they looked fun…
Second the suggestion for Jackbox games - you can do them with lots of people and see the responses on a big TV. Classics we play are Screw Your Neighbor (also known as Oh Hell) a card game, best with 5 or more, 7 is ideal. We played this recently Paper telephone - The Game Gal
Thanks, all. Some great ideas to offer up to the group. And good idea on small gift(s) for winner(s). That salad bowl game sounds like Monikers, which we own and is a ton of fun!
Code Names and Apples to Apples can span the ages well. Apples to Apples works for kids younger than 12 also and brings a lot of laughter. Appreciate all the suggestions here.
We had fun with Okay Boomer.
Just bought this game the other day - we are planning to try it at our new years eve party. Good to hear someone has tried and liked it.
We always have a mix of generations and I try to get everyone in the same room playing some or the other game. It’s been a challenge to do something different every year! We’ve tried Jeopardy in teams - both a home grown version and one, just calling out questions from a jeopardy calendar. We also love Salad Bowl and general Charades. There’s another game (name escapes me now) which is a step above Charades - you pick two cards and have to act out both simultaneously which is quite often impossible/ridiculous. Lots of laughs.
Reverse charades: Form two or three teams of multiple players. One will be the guesser, the entire rest of the team acts out the item to be guessed. You can buy the game, but just make up a pile of cards (have people who don’t play do that, or have just two people each do 10-12 so nobody knows allof them).
Things like : waiting for a taxi, going to the doctor, building a house, playing Monopoly, or objects like : train, dog kennel, movie theatre, hot air balloon festival
Good old fashioned Charades!
Doing Mad Libs is also fun. If we can’t find a booklet of them, we write our own.
Go to tiktok and search “Christmas Games”. There are videos of games that look like a lot of fun.
Mind the Gap (a generational game). I played it this summer and it’s a blast. I keep meaning to buy it.
Wits and Wagers is hilarious. You try to guess the nearest number to things you are highly unlikely to know like how many glasses of milk a cow produces in a year. Mattel Wits & Wagers: Family Edition Board Game
