Hey CC,
I really want to go into a reputable engineering school with business as a second choice if engineering doesn’t work out.
can you guys help me pick schools that are a 1) reach 2)match 3)early decision 4) safety…
THANKS SO MUCH

My unweighted is 3.56 (low i know, slacked off in sophomore year) and weighted is ~3.8.
i predict SAT is math:700 cr:650 wr:650 =2000

only took one honours class in junior year and 3 in sophomore year… only taking 2 AP classes in senior…
senior year course load: AP physics 12, AP Chem 12, Bio12, Eng 12, Calc 12, Economics12, Law 12, accounting 11
Does that count as a rigorous course load? Junior and sophomore year were similar course load.

ecs: varsity hockey for 6 years and nominated MVP for 4 years straight and was assistant captain for 2 years
part time job at a pizza place…
treasurer of key club
member of a community service group
varsity baseball, selected to play on the all-star team.
ONLY 70 hours volunteer hours so far though…

I was thinking about Virginia tech, purdue, Penn state…
thanks again

Also do american colleges look at GPA only or percentages too?

Have you taken any SATs or ACTs yet? Your “predicted” scores will not count toward admission; only actual results matter. The three colleges you mentioned might be within reach, if you receive the scores you hope for. Will finances be a major consideration? If not, then look at Drexel, Clemson, and Stevens Institute.

@woogzmama , ill will be taking them in october but looking at the practice test scores I’ve been getting, it seems 2000 will be the score… and engineering is the main however finances are an option for me

Texas A&M?? possibility?

I meant your personal finances, in terms of your family’s ability to pay, not as a potential major. Texas A & M would be another possibility, but you might also want to look at some less selective colleges that offer your fields of choice, in case you do not get the scores you want. Both Business and Engineering schools will want to see good math scores.

Does that mean you are an international applicant?

@"Erin’s Dad" i am from BC, canada

@woogzmama , Good math scores on the SAT or math courses from school? sorry if this is a stupid question, just really nervous

In that case @woogzmama’s question about finances is even more important. How much can your family afford?

Both matter for admission into highly-selective Engineering and undergraduate business colleges. Since you are from the West, you might look into some slightly less competitive schools, also, like New Mexico Tech, UC Santa Cruz, Cal Poly-Pomona, and the Universities of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. University of Arizona and Arizona State are possibilities. University of Colorado will be a decent match if your scores meet your expectations.

OP, @woogzmama, was asking you about your family’s finances. can you afford full pay at all these schools?

American colleges want to see a high GPA. They will know how to translate percentages (there are some differences between countries) into GPA. We might not know how to do that for your country of origin, however, so stick with your estimate of the GPA when dealing with us.

the biggest issue about admissions to american colleges is cost. They are very expensive. International students won’t get aid at most schools, so we need to know if you’re going to be needing aid.

@woogzmama @jkeil911 @"Erin’s Dad" financially we can pay for school with little to no financial aid, so finances seem not to be a problem for the schools. This biggest concern is acceptance as my Gpa is not excellent…
And yes, i plan to apply to Uni of arizona for a safety

I’ve focused on the schools that might have more reputation overseas: BostonU, NYU, UFlorida, Pitt, Missouri, Purdue, UMississippi, UWashington, Syracuse, Fordham, Florida State, IndianaU, Texas A&M, UDelaware, UWisconsin, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, UC Boulder.

@jkeil911 do you think any in your list can be my possible safeties if my SAT does not go over 2000?

My list is based on your supposed SAT, so they’re not worth very much. Boulder, but you have to be willing to pay UC prices: 51K. UMississippi, much cheaper but not as good. Maybe Missouri.
