Need help college search!

Hi guys I am sure there is a forum for this but I don’t think in my exact situation. Anyways, I have bee. Doing online high school for 1.5 years and because if it I am graduating a year early. I will be done with high school by next December and would like to go to college. I have a 3.55 GPA (it’s only low because of a bad geometry class). I don’t come from money so I am thinking I probably have
To go to a community college, which is fine as long as I can dn what I really want to which is journalism. Now I have a few questions with that being said. A community college works just like a university for instance I will still be able to major and minor? How bad does t look on a resume that I went to a community college instead of a university? I live in Chino Valley AZ so I am thinking about starting in Prescott at the college then going to Seattle Washington r just going straight there. Please help me! Thanks in advance

From what I know, you won’t be able to officially declare a minor at a community college. But if you want to minor, what you should do is look at the minor requirements for your intended minor at your target school(s), see if your CC offers those courses, and talk to a transfer counselor when you have those courses in mind so your counselor can check to see if the credits will transfer.
I’ve been told that you only really need to include where you got your degree from on your resume, but I think adding your CC would be somewhat helpful since on your resume, it’d show ‘AA’, and then your bachelor’s.

This is only if you are awarded an AA or AS from your CC instead of just transferring. If you don’t care about obtaining the AA/AS, and technically is never awarded, then it’s fine just to list the school you were awarded a degree from, unless you also want to make sure they understand the length in time you have been in school/getting an education.

And, no, you’re typically not able to declare a minor until you transfer.

You mean going to CC in WA? If funds are an issue, then this will present a financial difficulty since you’d have to pay for other living expenses (room and board, unless you will be with family) and you’ll be paying a higher Out-of-State tuition rate.

If you’re staying in AZ, then just look on the schools’ websites for which you want to transfer to and view all their transfer information (admission criteria, recommended courses, cost, etc) and strive for all of those goals.

Do you plan to apply to AZ colleges? If so, then the most beneficial route may be to find out if the CC you attend has an articulation or contracted transfer program with AZ universities. This will also be the cheaper route in the long run since you will still need to pay R&B and OOS tuition if you transfer out of AZ.
