Need help deciding - Vanderbilt

I am going to be a sophomore next year at Vanderbilt, and am transferring into the school of engineering for Mechanical Engineering. I was previously in the arts and sciences, and did not take calculus(155 a and b) or physics, both of which are required courses for the 2nd year engineering courses. So here is the dilemma: Do I take just catch up by taking those 2 classes over this summer or just stay for an extra year of college? If I do decide to try to catch up, I will be behind in all my math courses by one semester. My adviser recommended the 5 year path, but I truly do not wish to spend an extra year just for 3 classes. Will being behind in the math classes make it that difficult? I also have all my liberal arts requirements done, so that knocks off 3 credit hours about every semester in the future. Please tell me what to do.
