I am a California resident that would prefer to stay in the area, but I am willing to go out of state.
CSU/UC gpa=3.49
SAT= 1340(new)( I took another one)
EX credit= pretty much everything related to band(marching, jazz, etc)
AP courses= Bio, APEL
Current class= AP Calc ab, AP MECH, Band, History/AP Calc bc, AP E&M, Band, English
I plan on going in as a undeclared engineering major, but I feel like my options are really limited. Any schools where I might be a competitive candidate? If not, I plan on transferring.
Are CSULB/UCR/SDSU/Pomona decent matches?
All the CSU’s admit by Eligibility index and major except for Cal Poly SLO.
(CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + CR) which gives you an EI of 4132. This EI score should get you into all the CSU’s except for Cal Poly SLO and maybe SDSU.
There are only 2 CSU campuses that offer General Engineering: SLO and SJSU

I suggest you select an Engineering discipline, get an acceptance and then switch later if needed into your preferred Engineering major. Most of the Freshman engineering classes will be pre-req’s for all disciplines so it will give you time to find your niche.
For the UC’s, they are very GPA focused so below is the acceptance rate for Freshman admits in your GPA range. UCR looks doable. You might also want to consider UCSC. Engineering majors always need higher than average stats for the best chances.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%
Majority of CSU’s are Match or Safeties. SDSU is a High Match. SLO is a Reach.
UCR: High Match
UCSC: Low Reach
The rest of the UC’s are Reach-High Reach.
Good Luck.
