Need help! Error message when filling out FAFSA

So I’ve filled out the FAFSA app 3 times already and this is going to be my fourth year, but the first time I’m getting a weird error pertaining to my Mom’s Gross Income.

I’m a dependant student, I don’t work, go to school full time, and I’m broke so all the info about my financial info was easy (just a bunch of 0’s) and that went through fine.

The problem is that My mom’s income hasn’t changed over the past few years. Each year I entered the same number in, but this year when I enter the same number I get an error saying “The number you entered is significantly lower that the number entered last year”

I don’t get this because its the exact same number I entered last year, I have my last year’s FAFSA printed out and was using it as a guide.

Not really sure what to do to, I don’t want to have to lie to get even less money, that wouldn’t make sense, but I don’t want to cause any problems either resulting in me getting less money. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is the Fasfa only for American students?

 . .

Could you be entering the number in the wrong place? Can you double-check the wording of the question to make sure you’re answering the right one? The FAFSA questions have been simplified and reorganized since last year, so they won’t correspond perfectly.

When this stuff starts, error messages, etc., I usually take a brief break, save and exit the FAFSA and then reboot the computer. I had some weird messages which were inappropriate that I resolved with this technique. When you save, omit the current question answer.

If your Mom’s 2008 wages and income was x, and she also had other income y (untaxed for example) and you are estimating total 2009 (or even future year) perhaps FAFSA is picking up on the differential.

Just go back to the beginning of your current 2010-11 FAFSA input and check every financial value you put in and or may have omitted. Hopefully you’ll resolve this problem.
