I am looking for books to explain how technology works. How the android phone works and how text messaging, wireless internet, bluetooth, robotics, programs, computers, all of this works. I want a broad knowledge of all these topics so I can expand on them with further research. I am studying product design and would like to learn the technical aspects of it on my own.
Thank you,
-Dominic

The kids and I used to look at howstuffworks website a lot. Today’s format is a little harder to navigate, but still useful stuff.

[HowStuffWorks “Learn How Everything Works!”](http://www.howstuffworks.com/)
use “tech” link

“Technology” is very broad. I recommend ‘Introduction to Computing Systems’ by Patt and Patel if you are really interested in learning how a computer works. Not sure that’s really what you are after, but good luck.

The “How Stuff Works” website is decent.

Also just googling a technology term or “how does x work?” usually brings up something.

You’ll probably notice soon that if you really want to know “how something works”, then you’ll have to eventually dig into the fundamentals and that’s when you actually read e.g. electronics books, programming books, mechanical design books, specific engineering books (e.g. about communications technology), math and physics etc.
