need help interpreting essay prompt

UNC CHAPEL HILL:

“Students learn both inside and outside the classroom. What would other members of the Carolina community learn from you?”

Is this asking about a certain virtue or value you have that other people at UNC could admire or learn from? If so, then I would imagine it would be hard to write using this prompt without sounding arrogant. Is it asking if there is a certain skill, hobby, or idea that you could teach others at UNC? I really need help with this one. Thanks!

It could be either, or both (e.g. if you love to cook recipes that have been passed down throughout your family, and through sharing your love of cooking with your peers, you want to remind them of the value of community). For the former, it won’t be arrogant if you explain that the virtue is something you’ve learned yourself and taken care to develop vs. I’m smart, so I’ll teach all of you to be smart.

Excellent advice from @OnMyWay2013 !!!

I think you could concentrate on basic approaches to life-- stuff like optimism and taking advantage of serendipity.

Basically: which personality traits do you like most about yourself?

Thanks for the help @OnMyWay2013 @bjkmom !! I wrote about my passion for music and how I want to share that with the people at Carolina

How are you planning to share it?

I think it would make your essay more distinctive to concentrate on a personality trait than on a passion.
