NEED HELP!!! Letter of Recs!

If I’m asking for a letter of recommendation for my application to Architecture grad school, should the content in the letter reflect the teacher’s area of study? For example, if my letters are only from teachers who taught economics, would it seem out of place to ask them to see my portfolio and critique it (how would an economics professor know what to write on this)?

Speaking of which, what exactly are they looking for in these recs anyway? Description of general strengths, or strengths relating to study/practice of architecture only (e.g. artistic skills, etc.)?

Gee, isn’t the archinect post enough?

Your teachers know what to include in the recs. If not an art teacher, they will likely talk about your performance in their class as well as your motivation. They also may discuss your ability to function on a team, participate/contribute in a meaningful way in class, and demonstration of intellectual curiosity. I’ll bet an econ teacher wouldn’t need to see the portfolio. However, you could ask if they would like to see it. It could give them a glimpse of your work. They may even ask you to explain what you’ve included and why.

No, it wasn’t.

That’s what I was thinking: ask if they would like to see it and they can go on from there. The admissions committee would probably treat a critique on an art ptf from a non-art-teacher as insignificant anyway.

My jolly good fellows - come, come. Any other suggestions or comments are quite welcome indeed!
