Need help on a CR problem

I am not sure what the answer would be for the following CR problem (the underlined part is: Miami…conducted).

For generations, the tribe had owned no land on which a longhouse could be built and
Miami religious ceremonies conducted.

A. NO CHANGE
B. Miami ceremonies were conducted there.
C. there were Miami ceremonies conducted there.
D. the conducting of Miami ceremonies.

It looks to me that none of the answers really work.
But the official answer is A (No Change).
Can someone explain to me?

I encountered this problem on page 301 of The Real ACT Prep Guide (2nd Edition).

A is clearly right. The rest sound insane. What makes you think A is wrong and why does that matter when all the other answers would never be said aloud by anyone?

Try simplifying the sentence.

“I wanted to buy a stage on which a box could be placed and a party thrown.”

Does that sound weird?

B, C, and D change the meaning of the sentence. They all take “religious” out which is “essential” to the sentence, I guess. This has me somewhat stumped too. Does it not have an explanation?

According to parallelism rule, I would rewrite the ending phrase like the following:

Miami religious ceremonies could be conducted.

Is there a grammar rule for omitting the second [could be]?

Don’t try to find the right answer. Mark the other ones off based on why they are the wrong answers.
