need help. Selecting a correct phrase to make the sentence better

Lacking a good construction, (my mistakes in creating a graph to illustrate historical trends were nemerous)

  1. My mistakes in creating a graph to illustrate historical trends were numerous
  2. I made numerous mistakes in creating a graph to illustrate historical trends.
  3. There were numerous mistakes in the graph I created to illustrate historical trends
  4. I created a graph to illustrate historical trends with numerous mistakes
  5. The graph I made for illustrating historical trends had numerous mistakes

I had chosen the answer 3 and got wrong so I chose 5 and then got wrong again .
The correct answer is 2 but I dont see the reasons why my answers were all wrong.
Can anyone explain?? Thanks.

“Lacking a good construction” goes to “I” (I lacked having a good construction–not the graph) so that narrows it to answers 2 and 4. Answer 4 shows “with numerous mistakes” relating to historical trends rather than in the graph. So answer 2 is correct. Learn to diagram a sentence and these will be relatively easy.

it seems kind of difficult to me, probably because I don’t know how to diagram a better sentence, but your explanation is really helpful and understandable. Thanks a lot.

You may want to check up “misplaced modifiers”. Good luck :).
