Need Help with Checking Account Address

We’re planning to open checking, savings, etc. accounts with Chase Bank for DS. Even though Rice stated Chase would be sending info, we’ve yet to receive it (and we’d rather get it done before O Week). Our family already has a Chase account here in Austin, but I’m wondering whether we should have the Austin address on his checks or if we should put his Rice address on them. If the Rice address, how much is needed of the following:

Rice University
Brown College
MS 709
9 Sunset Boulevard
Houston, Texas 77005-1898

I’m thinking he would only need the bottom two lines…

If you have a checking account at Rice, I’d appreciate your comments on this.

Your name
Brown College
9 Sunset Boulevard
Houston, Texas 77005-1898

That’s the address format pretty much everyone on campus uses as far as I know.

I’ve always had an alternate residence on my checking account (usually my parents’ home), since the Rice address can change in as little as a year. If you are going to use Brown College’s address on your son’s checks, I’d imagine the last two lines will be fine. The process of distributing mail for students that live on campus is that the college coordinator receives all the mail and has individual mail slots for all residing students where their letters, magazines, etc. get placed on a daily basis. Summers are a different story - the process at my college - Jones - is that you can either choose to pick up your mail at Rice, if you’re close-by, or you can have your mail forwarded, but only first class gets forwarded and the rest gets trashed. For people living off-campus, at least at Jones, there are some additional locked mailboxes inside the college commons where mail gets placed on a daily basis, but that arrangement has to be made with the college coordinator.

I must agree that

[his name]

Houston, Texas 77005-1898

will probably suffice.

We got a checking account at Chase for my son earlier this summer and just put his home address on it. He will be receiving his statements on-line so it didn’t matter that the monthly statements would be going to a different address. I think he will rarely use his checks since his ATM card is also a debit card. In fact, when the account was first opened they apparently didn’t even order checks for him. We went back and requested them.

One other thing to consider is that when your son pays by check his driver’s license address won’t match the address on his checks if you put his Houston address on.

Thank you, everyone!

I did think about the non-matching address with the driver’s license, but I was hoping to get additional information, which I did. You all helped me make the decision to go with home address, but now I also know how he should have other mail addressed to him.

I love how helpful people are on this site!!!
