Need help with supplemental essay

Hi! So I love this site and its really useful and now I need help. I’m applying Carnegie Mellon and their supplemental essay is the “Why you want to go to our college essay?” My guidance counselor the other day quickly looked at my essay.

Looking back on my life I realize that my love of architecture began when I was eight years old. Every Saturday morning I would be found in my sky blue playroom playing with my Legos on the floor. I would always build houses and other structures. I found this activity exciting and enjoyable.
Outside of my school, a Gothic style church can be seen with its magnificent glass stained windows, countless arches and “flying buttresses”. The church evokes a sense of wonder. How did those architects manage to build such complex and intricately designed buildings? My desire is to learn how people are capable of creating masterpieces. I believe that is why I want to become an architect. Architecture gives one the power to create and see one’s vision come to life. When I draw or paint I experience something similar. When I’m done I see how much my ideas have evolved and changed into something real.
I want to become the best architect that I can. Carnegie Mellon will provide the perfect environment for me. CMU teaches students all they want to learn. Classes of every kind are offered to CMU students. Carnegie encourages students to take classes outside of their major CMU also prepares students for the real world. The professors have worked all around the world and have worked in companies such as Google, IBM, Golden Sachs, etc. This means that professors bring their real world experiences to Carnegie and prepare students to be the best at what their studying. Education should not encompass only learning about the major but how to apply that learning to the real world and CMU definitely does this.
Another aspect that I like about Carnegie Mellon is the diversity present there. The undergraduate population is composed of 40% percent women, 29% international students, 36% Caucasian, 3% Hispanic, 8 % African American 17% Pacific Islander. Diversity is important to me because diversity means that there is an environment where one can learn about different cultures and have the ability to think differently. The city that I live in is not diverse. Comprised mostly of Hispanics, I feel that growing up here has not given me the opportunity to learn about other cultures and how others think. I want the opportunity to interact with people who are not just Hispanic.
Carnegie Mellon is the perfect sized school for me. My high school, Notre Dame High School, is a really small school. There are only 47 students in my senior class. All my life I have attended small Catholic schools and for that reason I want to attend a large university. Carnegie is the ideal size because it’s a large school with mid size classes. I will be able to interact with a variety of people, while still receiving individualized attention from my professors.
I was born, raised and have lived most of my life in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Lawrence is a small city. Because Pittsburgh is more urban it will provide an environment of diversity of different cultures. Diversity is a source of inspiration.
Carnegie Mellon offers study abroad, an opportunity that I hope to take advantage of. . I have always dreamed of traveling the world and learning about different cultures such as the Japanese culture or Romanian culture… Traveling is another form of education. The places I’ve dreamed of visiting are Rome, Italy. Rome has many museums, art centers, statues and is saturated in history, an aspect that plays a large role in architecture. A building represents not only the individual who created it the needs of the people who use it, clients but it also represents the time period in which it was built. That is another reason why I would love to study abroad because I’ll probably study many historic buildings and paintings and statues but actually getting the opportunity to see them in real life is an extraordinary chance that I hope I’ll be given. Architecture represents historical events. To see a building such as the Roman Colosseum and connect what happened in history to the beautiful architecture is amazing.
The academics are not the only thing that I love about Carnegie Mellon. Aesthetically the campus is beautiful. It is one of the greenest campuses in the country. On the website, the images of the campus are ideally the type of campus I hope to study in. . The buildings are beautiful pieces of architecture where I can imagine myself sitting on the green lawn sketching the Rotunda or the Atrium. The campus itself will serve as inspiration. I believe that at Carnegie Mellon I will find my niche.

forget about it don’t read it…
