can someone explain numbers 13 and 64 on the english section. Thanks in advance.

Usually for questions like 13 you would want to pick a short and concise answer but not in this case, because they ask for the most specific details, which would be c or d. But C fits the style of the passage better, which is why it is the correct answer.

64 is h bcuz it makes sense

13:

A) incorrect because “out of sight” is a vernacular expression, and doesn’t fit the seriousness of the essay because it is too subjective.
B) “rises beyond belief” is similar to the above phrase in that it isn’t able to describe the intense fire in a consistent manner because, once again, it is too subjective.
C) could be correct because it explicitly describes the scene (1000 degrees) and is succinct.
D) grammatically, makes sense. however, due to the style of the writing, this answer would make the sentence substantially longer compared to the others.

So #13 is between C and D. on the ACT there are two guidelines i use:

 1. Keep it simple/short.
 2. No idiomatic expressions/vernacular - if you would say it to your best friend dont say it on the ACT

Because of those two guidelines, C is the optimal choice.

64

F) “okay” is a subjective/slang term (not a terrible slang word, but slang nonetheless) so it shouldn’t be “okay” for the ACT (that was a pun, trying to lighten the mood)
G) “all right” is not the correct form of “alright” which would have been an acceptable answer, so B cannot be correct.
H) the phrase sounds slightly unorthodox, but grammatically it fits, and all of the words are suitable vocabulary for a formal essay.
J) i personally do not know what the phrase “suit others to a tee” meant, but i assumed that it was another idiomatic expression and therefore could not be the correct answer.

Ultimately, you would be able to narrow it down to either G or H because of the inappropriate use of language in F and J. G is a trick answer because “alright” is different from “all right,” making H the ideal answer.

I hope this response helped - I personally got 64 wrong the first time i took this exam and put G because i moved too quickly. just be careful and you’ll do fine :)
