I’ve been a designer for 30 years with experience in both newspaper publishing and agency work. H and I are thinking of retirement in the next few years, at which time he will receive a decent pension. In one year I will be vested and also be able to receive a small pension. Ideally I would like to retire from the full time job when I become vested and begin some kind of online business…but I am at a loss for direction.

This is what I DO know: I communicate well and know design like the back of my hand, however, I am burnt out on the actual work itself and would prefer to somehow consult, or share my skills in some way. I enjoy corresponding and interacting with clients, but don’t want to run my own studio again as it involves too much overhead and headaches. In other words, I love the business but no longer desire to get my hands dirty! :)

What I DON’T know is how to reinvent myself utilizing my talents in a new and creative way, through some sort of online business (I do not do web design nor am I interested in that.) I have many contacts from my years in the business, but like I said, I don’t want to get bogged down with the hours and hours of actual design. I have access to talented freelancers if that is necessary, but would prefer a fresh concept or some kind of streamlined service.

I know this is rather vague, but you guys are a wealth of information and someone out there just may spark something! Your comments are so appreciated.
