I am currently 26 yeard old and I am an honor student at my current institution. I have been nominated for two scholarships, one to go to the Scholars Laureate in Australia. My question is how will my previous institutions grades affect this process. When I was 18, and fresh out of high school I attended a school where I did not do very well. I dropped out without withdrawing, and I owed them money so I never got the transcripts. I guess my question would be is there anyway to get rid of the old institution grades without it affecting my current GPA??? Please help. I don’t want something I did as a dumb teenager ruin the chances that I have now as a responsible adult trying to make a difference.

Does pursuing the scholarships require you to provide transcripts from former schools? Your first college probably won’t even release them if you’re still owing them money.

If you need them in order to get the scholarships, you’ll probably have to pay up. In that case, a letter explaining your youthful missteps and how you’ve found the focus and motivation to succeed now… something like that would probably be in order.
