Need info on Stanford courses rules and responsibilities- studying in europe

Greetings,

I live and study in Croatia and am at 4th year of university. The system here is 3+2, 3 being bachelor. At 4 year we choose direction. Mine is Automatics.

I am writing because my opininion is that US education system is the best and proven and would like answers to which is the right way to study, my responsibilities and those of faculty staff. Situation at my faculty is pretty much chaotic and differs from course to course.
If there are links you could post i would be grateful.

My particular problem is that one course has rules that I am not sure is fair.
We have 2 homeworks through semester for which we get 20 points (100 is maximum for course) and if we don’t collect 10 we flunk and have to try next year. That’s okay but requirement is to show up at homework presentation, if we don’t, we get 0. None other course has that.
I was ill for first and although I answered it got 0 because it was more than 2 weeks after presentation. The second one I tried to finish until deadline and mailed unfinished homework. I wasn’t at presentation because i had to sleep (worked until morning) and the reason I wouldn’t get 10 i required.

So I am expecting to flunk the course, and my question is are rules that strict at Stanford or do u get a second chance? My exams from the same subject are above average.

Doesn’t sound anything like the American system to me. You’ll be fine. :)
