D’s laptop battery has died. She just ordered a power cord off ebay the other day thinking that was what she needed, but not computer not powering up with a borrowed cord either.

Can anyone (all you computer gurus here!) recommend a seller on ebay that ships quick and is reliable? Will be looking for a replacement battery for a Dell Inspiron E1505 model.

Not a specific seller, but I’ve bought many cell phones/chargers/. . . off eBay and not had a bad experience with any of them. These guys are used electronics brokers who want to keep their feedback rating high. I’d just look for someone who has done several thousand transactions and has 99%+ positive feedback. Also, check to see where the seller is. Just a few weeks ago I was looking for a cell phone charger for DS who needed one quickly. I’d just about hit the “Buy it now” button when I noticed the seller was in Hong Kong and the estimated delivery date was 3-4 weeks away. Just make sure you have a U.S. seller.

^ I’ll second what ingerp said, except I wouldn’t buy a used battery.

None of those guys actually make the batteries, they are just reselling them, so for me, I look first at feedback, then price (including shipping), then location. If I need it quickly, I’ll look at location second.

I’ve actually bought an E1505 battery, I don’t remember who the seller was, but if you want I’ll look it up when I get home. It’s been working fine for many months now.

I would recommend only getting the battery made for your computer though. The exploding, fires, etc are usually caused by an incompatible battery. Many manufactures’ batteries have intelligence built in the connectors that works with the power settings.

Did you try taking the battery out and using the power cord? It may not be the battery. If it does not then it may be a different issue. The computer should power up with the power cord. Did the new cord include the “brick”?

I’ve purchased replacement laptop batteries from Pacific Battery (google it) and they’ve been fine. I think I even purchased some for the E1505 from them.

I have bought replacement batteries, but the only advice I have it is specifically get the exact battery that you currently have. My d ordered one once that was slightly different and it “fried” her computer becasue the connections wen’t right. (wish I could be more specific, but I am not computer savy and not familiar w/ all the technical terms). Good luck!

I use batteries plus; they have local stores as well as online:
[Batteries Plus battery store - All your battery needs for Laptop, camera, cell phone, camcorder, SLA, batteries recycling and much more](http://www.batteriesplus.com/)

The office supply stores also carry laptop batteries for some of the more popular models in the store. It might be worth checking out Staples, Office Depot or Office Max and see if that have what you need.

I had D try taking her battery out and using the power cord - it worked just fine, so hoping it IS the battery. Just bought one and quick shipped it to her for an extra 2 bucks. The seller had over 200,000 positive feedbacks and a positive feedback rate of 99.8% - sounds like a pretty sure bet to me!

*Not a specific seller, but I’ve bought many cell phones/chargers/. . . off eBay and not had a bad experience with any of them. *

I’ve had opposite experience . I have never bought a phone, or battery that worked correctly. I have had one phone charger that works. To me, it is more trouble than it is worth to save buying anything electronic on ebay.

I use Amazon. It enforces any promised warranties. I had bad luck with a power cord, but I got 2 replacements within a year. First time, I had to mail it back. Second time, I didn’t.

I have bought several laptop batteries off Ebay from vendors with 99.8% approval rating; that’s because the “approval” happens when you first GET the product. I wonder how much approval they’d get if they came back 9 months later and asked again. I will never buy a battery on Ebay again - each of them pooped out completely after only about 9 months. This time, when we needed a battery, I went to the Apple store and bought one. Still going strong after over a year…other apples batteries have lasted us for 3-4 years.

My E1505 battery is now 16 months old and it is working fine. At a fraction of the price of a new one from Dell, even if they only lasted 9 months I am still way ahead. It came with a three year warranty although I have not had to test it.

Maybe I’ve been lucky, but all the batteries I’ve ordered have worked fine.
