We are leaving at the crack of dawn for a week split between LA and San Diego. Will mostly be doing touristy stuff. Hubby has a conference in San Diego. I just started packing and realized I’m not sure what to bring. The weather appears to be in the high 60’s-low 70’s during the day. It’s 92 here in the south and women are wearing capris, sundresses and flip-flips everywhere. Is that too ‘summery’ for S. Cal. this time of year? I will definitely bring some layers like cardigans but am wondering if I should skip the capris and sundresses.

Definitely bring capris and sundresses. It’s been closer to 80 lately. A lot of people wear flip flops. But maybe bring flats or tennis shoes at night, because it can get a little chilly.

There can be substantial differences, here in San Diego-land, between being on the Coast and even a short way inland. So… definitely bring sweater and shoes you’d be comfortable in in cool-ish weather. It is rarely 80 in coastal San Diego, where I am. But frequently close to that more inland. You may well find yourself in two or more climates in the same day.

Definitely capris. Unless you are the type that considers 62 degrees to be “freezing” - and, if you do, you will have plenty of company around here. That’s not me as I live in Maine part of the year. But you will find some people who think 60 degrees is parka weather, lol.

Sundresses - maybe, maybe not. Do you know exactly where you are going to be and how much you’ll be moving around geographically? I am usually wearing short-sleeve tops now in the coastal climate (cardigan handy for sea breezes etc.); infrequently wearing sleeveless. When I am 5 miles inland (maybe less), short sleeve or sleeveless and cardigan not often needed.

I always like to pack a lightweight jacket (for A/C & breezes). I prefer slacks over capris, tho both are worn a lot in southern CA. Just came back from LA & didn’t use the skort I packed at all. I like bringing some dark walking shoes or flats because we tend to walk quite a bit. If you’re going to be attending a few nice meals/dinners, you might want to pack at least one or two nice outfits.

Have a great time–there are a lot of nice stores if you don’t pack everything you need anyway. :)

Thanks! Though a friend and I made a pact that we would go the whole month of June without buying any clothes, shoes or jewelry (we both realized we had a slight addiction to clothes shopping
). So if I’m going to buy anything it will have to be by Tuesday. Guess I need to do some power shopping. In reality, when I’m traveling with son and hubby, I generally don’t get much clothes shopping time anyway. They don’t have much patience.

Be sure to bring a sweater or sweatshirt for the cooler evenings. I have been to the Old Globe outdoor theater in the summer where people are wrapped in blankets because it is chilly. A nice hat and some sunscreen will be handy!

And don’t forget to throw in your sunglasses!

I travel to SoCal often and from a cooler region. It is hard to predict what the weather will be, so I always take some capris and layerable tops, tank with something over it plus shoes that have closed toes and open toes. This allows the most flexibility.

I usually take 1-2 items for much hotter and much cooler weather, one pair of long pants and one or two sundresses. I have had times where I end up in those same outfits the entire time, but usually capris with a varied tops will cover most weather especially in the spring/fall.

lol…that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. 1 sundress, 1 pair dressy long pants, 1 pair casual long pants, a couple of capris, a variety of tops, a couple of cardigans, open-toe espadrilles, walking shoes, flip-flops and 1 pair flats. You guys have been most helpful. We always seem to be out sync in NYC. We were there a few weeks ago and it was in the 60s and people are walking around more bundled up than we were. I never saw a pair of capris and very few sandals…didn’t want to have the same thing happen in California. Last time I was in Cal. it was in San Francisco, this time of year and I remember people were also dressed more warmly than I expected. It’s hard to know what to bring when you are coming from a different climate.

Somemom is right. Depending on where you are, it could be 62 or 82 degrees. Sunday is supposed to be cooler than it has been this week. You can wear sandals, even at night. Sounds like you’ve gotten good advice! You’ll see lots of capris, shorts and flip flops. As long as you have a sweater, you’re fine!

I just came back from San Diego. The weather was not the best, mid to upper 60s, clouds and occasional drizzles. I wore capris and jeans with short sleeved tops and a lightweight jacket when needed. I walked around a lot, so having a pair of comfy flats was very helpful. DD wore sundresses and flip flops.

As far as shopping goes, beginning of June is the start of the designer sales.
you might be better off shopping in June rather than this weekend.

During the Month of June, So. California coastal areas typically have morning overcast. Temperatures are usually in the mid 70’s in June, with evening temps in the 60’s. You will only need a light sweater for an evening out. Have fun!
