I’m so tired of paying good money every couple of years for a blanket, that after three or four washes, shrinks to the point that its sides barely cover our king-size mattress.

I definitely want 100% cotton, as we only use our blanket, a flat sheet, and a quilt. Our bedroom gets the full blast of the A/C and heat coming from the basement, so in the winter, we are always warm, and in the summer, cooler in our bedroom.

Have done a google search for higher-end bedding that might say something regarding its shrinkage after several washings, but cannot find any that describe their blankets that way. Since our dog sleeps on our bed, I do wash the bedding fairly often (the dog is 14, so this will not change). I need to be able to throw it in the dryer. I just want something that hold its size.

I use all-cotton “waffle weave” blankets (loosely woven, lots of air pockets) in between the flat sheet and a quilt. Is that the sort of thing you have in mind? They definitely don’t shrink, in fact they grow in between washings, due to the loose weave. I have several different brands, some many years old.

We have been happy with our waffle weave blanket. We also have a 100% cotton comforter we purchased from Ross for a good price (about $35 or so for a full). Both have been used for many, many years with no signs of giving it up or shrinking.

Agree with the suggestion for waffle weave. Have had good luck with The Company Store and have always been happy with their customer service, too.

I will also recommend waffle weave. I wash ours regularly, otherwise it gets a bit unruly. Love the weight of this one. LL Bean brand. I’ve had very good results from all their blankets.

I do like Company Store, but find it’s prices a bit high. I always liked LLBean, but was disappointed with my last mail order from them–the product wasn’t of the usual high quality, but I’m hoping it was a fluke. The things we’ve purchased in-store at LLBean and REI have been great. We did purchase a “trapper” 100% cotton throw from LLBean that we used happily for many years before it started falling apart from overuse/washing.

Speaking of blankets, does anyone know where a student could buy a cheap blanket in Washington DC? My DD is at a summer internship, in a coolish air-conditioned dorm downtown, and will need to find one.

Is there a TJMaxx or Ross nearby, or on the Metro line?

Waffel weave is a great blanket, unless your dog likes to dig a “nest” to sleep in…I had one that had to scrunch up the blanket before sleeping, the waffle weave would catch on his paws, so it didn’t work so well. I love LL Bean, I have had excellent customer service from them.

fauve…I’d order online. google and compare prices. I’m sure there are options on the various metro lines, but I’m only familiar with the ones out in College Park, MD. Unless she and friends decide to plan a shopping outing to one of the malls in the 'burbs.

Try Lands End. They have several to choose from. While not inexpensive, they have a lifetime guarantee. I have always been very happy with both their quality and customer service.

Fauve, Kohl’s has several stores in the area & surely one or more are near metro stops. They also frequently have free shipping offers, in case you want to have a blanket sent to your dd. I ordered from Kohl’s recently for my ds, after confirming that there’s a store within 3 mi. of his apt. just in case he needs to make an exchange.

I bought a silk blanket at Tuesday Morning about 18 months ago. The best blanket I’ve ever had. Light weight but warm…but we use it in the summer too. Its magical really. A magical blanket. Love it, love it, love it!!!
