need SAT/ACT retest advice

Just received my first set of SAT scores from May test = 1900 no studying
I got a 29 on the Feb ACT (a little studying)

I only want to study for one test to retake. My subscores on SAT were
CR 640
M 590 :frowning: Math is my nemesis
W 670

I think I may have to study MUCH harder to bring up the CR/M scores than I would on the ACT 33CR/25M - science was also a killer for me, but would like feedback since the two scores are fairly similar - ACT conversion is 1920 (I know some schools look at CR/M on the SAT separately) Then again, some people have told me it is harder to “study” for the ACT (my main problem is speed with this test, had plenty of time on SAT but missed questions.)

For those that have taken the test more than once, is it possible to actually raise your score that much more to try for the schools below?

Want to apply to USC, BC, NYU, possibly Brown and UPenn (if I can get my scores high enough)

Thanks for any input!

the first time i took it i got about the same as you (1890, with 620 M, 600 CR, and 670 W. But that was back in jan, and on May’s i managed to pull it up to a 2050 (690 M, 650 CR, 710 W). So, while my scores all seemed to follow the same trend between sittings (although i really pulled up my math), i still pulled it up only through rigourous studying of test prep books and practice tests. i didn’t take a single test prep course, however, as i’m a much more independent learner. i would suggest to really ask yourself how motivated you are and how good you are at self studying before deciding to either take a course or buy books. i suppose both would be ideal, but i really have a hard time learner from a teacher. all i can ever do in school is learn the material independently.
