I will be a freshman at Penn State and, while I know the classes I will be taking, I am unsure which times to go with…
I consider myself a morning person and usually go to bed pretty early and get up around 8:30 - 9:00 during the summer. Knowing this, I decided to schedule Math for 9:00 am four days per week and Computer Science at 9:00 am the other day. My other classes, with the exception of one, are during the span of 11am-2pm, My last class, however, has two lab periods a week from 6:30-8:00pm.
Because of the late labs, I am unsure if the 9am math is such a good idea after all. The math is available from 3:30-4:30pm and 4:30-5:30pm. However, I do think I am more productive in the morning and it would be great to have my classes finished by 2pm three days a week, but I don’t know I will be too tired to focus for my lab periods Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I also don’t know if I will be able to get to bed early enough to get up that early because I’m starting out in supplemental housing with 5 or 6 roommates (I will probably be able to move out a few weeks after the semester starts).
Does anyone have any advice on which math to schedule?
Thanks
Look at the professors on RateMyProfessor and pick the best one for math. It’ll make a world of difference.
Here are also some things to consider:
When are the breaks in your class? With a class so late, especially when starting so early, it can be easy to lose motivation throughout the day when you have larger breaks.
You also want to take in consideration lunch, study times, and potential times when you could work, if that’s something you’re interested in pursuing.
I would say either try to fill the gaps in your schedule, or make the gaps big enough to be able to work or do something productive in the mean time.
In terms of sleep I would say that if you usually go to bed that early you might have trouble waking up in the morning for your classes, especially when you need to take into consideration times to study and get homework done.
