Hi everyone,
I am a rising senior in HS and am really struggling in my college search mostly because I am not sure what I want to major in yet. I am leaning toward majoring in statistics or a social science. I want to go to law school after college.
Since I am not sure what I want to major in, could anyone give me some recommendations purely based on my academic qualifications and ECs? I already have 2 ivy league schools I want to apply to and a safety school. But, I’d lose someone to recommend the best school that I have a reasonably good chance of getting into since I know the ivies are a huge stretch.

- What is your budget?
- Home State?
- Regional and size preferences? Public/Private/LAC?
@Gumbymom Budget should really be too much of an issue. My home state is utah, but the only college I’d be willing to go to in Utah is the University of Utah. And I public and private is okay, I prefer a medium to large school
My suggestions would be Washington University in St. Louis, Emory, Tulane, Case Western
Georgetown, Tufts, UDenver, American, Macalester, Colgate, Hamilton, Pitzer
For other safeties, Kalamazoo and Hobart-and-WilliamSmith.
You could also try the UC system. Almost all the schools offer a good social science program and minor in statistics . As you are not sure of what to major in, it is better to go to a large school that offers many options so that you can take varied courses at the foundation level and find your passion.
^ Except UCs require students to apply with a major and are so impacted you can’t really just “take classes to see what you like”. And of course there’s no financial aid so unless OPs parent have 240k UC s are really not good.
@Cubbybear : run the NPC on every college listed here then bring the results to your parents. What can they afford?
IF you want to go to law school, save yourself some money undergraduate, make sure you consider at least 2-3 in state options.
