Ever since I was a sophomore, I’ve had a nasty hip/back injury that required multiple surgeries and countless visits to the doctor and physical therapy. To this date it’s still not better and aside from constant pain and physical therapy, it’s pretty much kept me from extracurricular activities. I know this sounds like a good excuse to be lazy, but I’m not kidding you. I was involved in sports/clubs/ect up until this injury and haven’t been able to do much else since. Is there any way I can work this into my ApplyTexas topic for UT and A&M?

Thank you very much

Yes. That is practically the purpose of prompt C. I assure you, that is no “excuse for being lazy”, and it’s definitely something you want admissions to understand. It will definitely help compensate lacking ECs.

Don’t beg for sympathy, but write passionately. Talk about the pain. Describe how the injury affected your academic life and how you overcame obstacles. Blah blah. If you don’t beg for sympathy, you will probably get sympathy. If you make it incredibly pitiful, you may annoy admissions. Punchline: You can’t change your circumstances, but you can change yourself, and you have done so to make the best of your situation.
