Need some help please

So I’m a sophomore in High School, and I’ve decided that I don’t want my high school schedule to be too hectic, so I will limit myself to 3 Aps next year. I want to be a Doctor so obviously I’ll be pre-med, but majoring in history. I am from Alabama but I would rather leave the state. What are some good ranking pre-med schools in the South that don’t need a SUPER DUPER rigorous schedule High School schedule to get into

bump!!! 10char

Are you the student that needs a lot of financial aid?

If so, then that’s going to limit which schools in the south will work for you. Schools like Vandy and Duke meet need, but they aren’t easy to get into.

I didnt mean to put the south… what about anywhere??

Ok…anywhere…

Are you the student that needs a lot of financial aid? if so, that will affect which schools should be recommended to you.

Also, a lot will depend on your stats.

Schools that meet need tend to be the more competitive schools.

Yes I am the student that needs alot of aid…

Ok…

so, here’s the deal…

Schools that give full need-based aid are also typically the most competitive schools to get into…hence needing a rigorous high school course curriculum.

*What are some good ranking pre-med schools …that don’t need a SUPER DUPER rigorous schedule High School schedule to get into *

Probably schools that give HUGE merit scholarships for stats that also have good science programs.

Any specific schools? And can I be competitive at top ranking schools with only 4 AP classes?

That depends…

How many AP classes does your school offer?

When your GC submits your transcript, she’ll have to indicate whether you took a rigorous curriculum or not. If your school offers - say - 12 AP classes, and you only took 4 while the top students took 8, that will hurt you …it will also likely hurt your ranking.

Well I am in the top 6%, my school offers 26 APs… but there are only 4 APs available sophomore year, none of which I took

i will bump this now

This depends on what you mean by “top ranking schools.” If you mean HYPS, which tend to be generous for any admitted student who has the need, you likely can not rely on the academic achievement within your high school alone to help you get in. You need to go outside of your school to compete (normally at the state level) and get some recognition (either in traditional academic areas or in any kind of ECs.) How many APs you take would likely be the least worry you should have if your goal is to getting into these schools. Even a top 1% student from a competitive public high school may not get in if he or she does not have other achievement.

I do not know anything about a competitive private prep-school. But it appears many of these high power prep-schools get a higher percentage of their students into these college, maybe due to the caliber of their students. If that is the case, the students from there may rely more on their in-school academic achievement.

^ Thanks dude, but I already picked the two colleges I’m applying to (:

*Well I am in the top 6%, my school offers 26 APs… but there are only 4 APs available sophomore year, none of which I took *

It sounds like your current ranking is based mostly on freshmen year grades - before AP grades. However…

If your school weights GPAs, then your classmates will likely pass you up rankwise if they are taking APs and you’re not (or they end up taking more than you do).

It’s not unusual for top rankings to go to the students who take the most APs.

Then why the bump 29 whole minutes before his post?

Well, at least you spent almost 30 minutes on it. Good for you.

BTW, good choice to go down from 3 apps to 2 app when you have the need for substantial FA. That way you’ll be almost guaranteed to have a gap year. That’ll lower your stress level for sure. ;)

Thanks but I’ve got it figured out (:

I’m sure you do. Good luck!

I think you missed Curmy’s very good point.

I’m going to apply to Auburn and Vanderbilt?

So I wouldn’t have a gap year… Thank you though (:

Vandy does NOT fit what you were asking for…

Vandy doesn’t fit that request.
