You might end up doing much better on the ACT. Some people see a big difference just because they’re naturally better at one test. You already took a class? Hmm. I guess the most important thing is a LOT of practice tests. The SAT asks the same types of questions over and over. Every time you get one wrong, look in the back of the book and see exactly why that’s the wrong answer. You’ll also be more comfortable not spending too much time on one question. Some people find this guide really helpful, written by a CollegeConfidential member named silverturtle: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtle-s-guide-to-sat-and-admissions-success.html

And if you do well on your ACT, schools will accept that and they’ll never need to see your SAT scores. Good luck! My brother also started off around where you were, but raised it to a 1500 and got into a few SUNYs and other schools so far (still waiting to hear back from others).

Use number2.com. It’s a free website. You register and then after a few questions they target your weaknesses until you consistently improve on them.
