Need to Replace My Hand Mixer

Tonight DS was making a huge batch of cookie dough to thanks teachers for LORs when the mixer finally died. I’ve had it for years, a Krups model. Replacing the beater attachment that broke is not cost-effective and I’d like to get a new one. I’d like it to be light, strong and easy to clean and store, and not too expensive. Anyone have one they love?

When you say hand mixer do you mean one without a stand that you must hold the entire time? IF so, there are many varieties. I forget which one I have but its pretty unexciting. But it does the job.

IF you want a stand mixer,t he gems are the KitchenAids, [Mixer at Macy’s - Mixers, Stand Mixer - Macy’s](http://www1.macys.com/shop/kitchen/kitchen/electrics/mixers-accessories?id=46705&edge=hybrid#!fn=MIXER_TYPE=Stand%20Mixer&sortBy=ORIGINAL&productsPerPage=40&!qvp=iqvp&cm_mmc=msn_AdchemyElectrics-_-adc_1049_51744-_-adc_1033870090_e-_-Hand) Mixermkwide1000184015498572_1033870090|-|1000184015498572 but they are very expensive. YOu can probably get a good deal at Kohls or Target or somewhere today, cyber Monday. I had an oster stand mixer. It was a piece of junk. Looked like stainless steel but was really plastic, and it didnt work well.

I have an Oster hand mixer which works quite well and I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer which I love and have had for many, many years. I got the hand mixer at Target.

Several years ago–maybe 5?–I replaced my ancient hand mixer with a Cuisinart model from Best Buy. It works very well, and gets frequent use compared to the average hand mixer. (I use it in my business.) The beater parts look like wire whisks with fewer wires, while my old one had the kind made of flat strands of metal. Despite the airier-looking beaters, it works significantly better.

I haven’t used it to mix something really stiff like cookie dough, though. I do that in my stand mixer. Mostly I’m beating softened butter into ganache, whipping cream, and the like.

I prefer hand mixers to stand mixers, so much so that I can’t remember the last time I got the stand mixer out. I love my little Kitchen Aid hand mixer. I think I paid about $40 at Dilliard’s a few years back. You can probably find comparable or better deals out there right now.

I have a hand mixer I will recommend you avoid - it’s a Black and Decker PowerPro. My main complaint is at its lowest speed, it’s too powerful. Hard to do the initial mixing without splattering. It’s also difficult to remove one of the removable mixer blades - one pops out, the other doesn’t release with the button.

I got a few years ago so that model may not be made any more or it may have been improved.

The Cuisinart or the Kitchenaid get great reviews for hand mixers.

I don’t have space for a stand mixer. It helps to know what to avoid. I’ll check out the ones recommended. Thanks.

I second the vote for kitchenaid hand mixers. I have used them for years.

Keep in mind that some hand mixers come with an accessory that converts it into a poor man’s stand mixer.

As for Black & Decker kitchen products, I have found them to be of fleeting quality. They don’t last.

I don’t think anyone mentioned Waring. There is one on Amazon with good reviews and a great price. Anyone have experience with Waring?

Am I the only one who becomes completely incapacitated by Internet shopping? By the time I wade through some reviews, I find myself paralyzed with indecision because there are always some negative reviews although the Waring seems to be more positive than KitchenAid or Cuisinart. If not Waring, then I’ll go with Cuisnart I think.

Very happy with my 15 year old KitchenAid. I have no idea if the new ones hold up as well.
