We bought a new Vizio TV for the basement. DH went through set up. The vizio remote turns it on and will do volume. The Comcast remote will only do channel changing. DH said there is some way for the Comcast remote to read the vizio remote, so we can only use the Comcast one.
I got ahold of Comcast through chat and they said no, I had to use the vizio for power and volume. How ridiculous. We just had a Sony and was using the Comcast remote only.
Does anyone know how to do this? This stuff brings me to tears.
Actually the Comcast remote should be able to be synced to the TV itself, not the remote. There is likely a code you need to input while pointing it at the TV.
I would call, and ask someone to walk you through it. My cable service did.
Use the link in Bearcatfan’s post and pick your comcast remote. You’ll get to a menu that will let you select your TV brand. Vizio is listed. Follow their instructions. It should work out ok.
Thanks everyone. I had already done that and my remote wasn’t working like the instructions. That’s when I contacted Comcast and elected to chat online with them instead of calling. They had to resend a signal and then I could follow those instructions, but only changing channels would work. They said that I would have to use the vizio remote to turn it on and use volume, which is silly. So, I thought I’d come here to see if anyone knew how to sync the two remotes.
Yeah, it worked! Initially, the first instruction wouldn’t work today. That’s when I called Comcast and they refreshed my signal and told me channel changing was all I could do.
They should have made me go through the steps again like you all said!
You should definitely be able to match the remote to your Visio TV. Chances are there are multiple codes for a given TV provider. Find the instructions sheet for the remote and look for the TV section for Visio. On my remote for example there are 4 codes. You may need to go they all of them until you find a hit.
Chances are that the remote is originally through Universal Electronics. They have their own support page at urcsupport.com. They have instructions on finding the code of your TV as well.
