I was nominated by my school to attend a LA Youth Action Summit on Education where we will meet with out district members and officials to discus how we can improve schools-from the students point of view.

The problem is that its going take the summit will take 4 days. The same 4 days I am in school
Now my choices are to stay in school and ignore the nomination
or Represent my school and miss work. I do have alternatives that could fill up for me on certain days. In addition the summit will take place 2 weeks after my school year has initiated.

Think about it- you’ll be in school for the whole rest of that year but you’ll only be at that summit thing once. Just remember to never pass up a good thing.

One of the first things I would have to ask would be "Is it a school sponsored activity? If so will you miss critical course work neccessary to keep your GPA at a competitive level?

If its not a school sponsored activity the answer appears easy for me, dont go. If it a school sponsored activity and you will miss critical course work, then again…dont go.

If the answetr to the first is yes and the answer to the second is no, then I think it would be feasible to attend. There are many things that a young person might get to do that might seem like a once in a lifetime thing. However, the real once in a lifetime thing is the opportunity to excell at your grades for the particular class you are enrolled in.

SteslaS:
You’re questioning this? Four days at the beginning of school for something that’s gonna look AWESOME on your transcript? Easy one for me…GO!!!

What a neat experience…totally plan on meeting with your teachers beforehand and making sure you work ahead and get what you missed…but…for four days? Negligible in the overall, big picture. Go to the conference.
