<p>MY UNUSUAL CASE: [ Low GPA and high(2250-2380 expected) SAT score ]
I was a good student till my clas 10 but after i entered high school(11th and 12th std. in India) I became heavily addicted to gaming and used to play for about 10-12 hours a day in these 2 crucial years and i used to bunk college (Yes! 11th and 12th grade r known as Junior College in India) and visit cyber cafes(LAN centres) for gaming. I hardly attended college for more than 1 month totally per year. But i passed even though I expected to fail both the years.
In India once u pass the 12th std. u cant appear for the examination again(Education is great but system sucks) thus ruining the child’s future completely. I was so sad coz i had dreams of going to the IIT(world famous Indian Institutes of Technology) but was at loss due to my noobness in my crucial years.
Then a friend of my Dad’s suggested that I try for higher studies in the US by appearing for the SAT (and TOEFL) . This was 1 month ago . I have joined SAT tuitions and I am doing it well now (Left gaming for some months…But i wanna make my carrer in computer programming).</p>
<p>Scores:
10th grade : 84% (Good in India)
12th grade : 55% (Sad…) [Dunno how to calculate GPA , Indians use %]
Expected SAT Scores (I’m studying hard and planning to take the SAT in October and judging by my preparation now ) :
Critical Reading :750+
Writing : 750+
Maths : 800</p>
<p>Average Expected : 2250-2380</p>
<p>Intended Majors : Computer Engg. , Computer Programming or others related to Software Programming</p>
<p>Can u people plz tell me which colleges i stand a chance to go to.
(The only thing messed up is my 12th grade scores . I have been a good student all the way through my school carrer till the 10th grade )</p>
<p>You’ll be facing other international students with comparable (and most likely better GPA scores) so I find it unlikely (but not impossible) that you would get into a top school. You stand a decent chance at any state school/tier 2? By the way, if you can afford full tuition you’ll have more options availble.</p>
<p>hi … I am from India too … I can pretty much understand what u r talking about … It will be awesome if u can actually manage to score more than 2250… wat u need to do is to give SAT2s in math , physics and chemistry … even though u got 55% in 12th u can still score pretty good SAT2s … u have plenty of time on ur hands so u can work hard for the SAT 2s … Also try for canadian universities because they are cheaper than the US ones …</p>

It is a guess but better than one coz i m confident of getting at least 2250
The maths on the SAT is so easy (i have done such maths in my 8th grade)
The Writing Section is also easy as i have good grammar base. Only need to study is for Essays and Critical reading coz CR qns r new to me and for essays u need to just read tons of those.
And yea, I am not saying tat i MUSt go to harvard . I just need a GOOD school to study . Nothing more :)</p>

Yes. But i didnt appear for tat too . And you need at least 60% in the damned 12th grade exam for u to qualify to APPEAR for the IIT JEE
or I would have given it a shot next year . </p>

Hi! I dont have any worry about my tuition fees . And yea i was planning to take the SAT2s (M1 , M2 , Physics) in the month of november.</p>
<p>My counsellor says he can get me into a good school WITH a scholarship if i manage to achieve my specified target (2250 - 2350).</p>

<p>its awesome if u can afford the tution … and u have a counsellor 2… i think u are going pretty well … all u need to do is crack the SAT and u r thru …
