Neep help please

Hey, I am a rising senior at a competitive public high school in Northern Virginia. However from what i have read, unless I am in the top 5 of my class, this actually hurts me, especially in state. Although my stats arent great and i have virtually no ecs. Please dont berate me on this me this, I know already. But I would really like to get out of Virginia preferably a school on the southeastern seaboard (i.e Maryland south to Florida). also the extreme competition to even second tier Virginia schools is a turn-off. Could somebody please gie me suggestions of match schools, match schools with good aid programs would also greatly be appreciated.

Stats

writing 580

Good on the grades, but bad on the SAT. Options: stay instate at a state school like Virginia Tech or JMU. Or…get some SAT tutoring NOW…there is a method to taking that exam. And then retake it in October, but you have to sign up NOW. So get help NOW. Even 50 points in your Math and CR will help you considerably.

Last option, focus on good schools like Roanoke, Randolph College (which is really looking to bolster their male population…its a great little school by the way.)

Good luck.

Bump…

An SAT Prep course would actually work for someone with grades like yours. You want to get at least a 2000. Take up piano now and pretend that you’ve been playing for years.

Okay John…never mind Liist’s humor. If you REALLY want to leave Virginia, then your options are somewhat limited as the further south you go it gets very competitive for the top schools.

Some state schools to consider are NCState, USC-Columbia, Clemson, Florida State, South Florida. Private schools to look at include Elon (but its getting highly competitive there as well…a 40 percent admit rate), Wofford, Presbyterian, etc. Wake Forest is SAT optional now, so you might look closely at them. But they are highly selective. I am afraid that Davidson, Emory, Duke, UNC, Vanderbilt, Furman will be out of the question unless your SAT scores are raised up in October.

You could look into Goucher,McDaniel and Towson University in Maryland.

Your 2-part SAT score of 1200 and your 3.6 GPA would qualify you for the Honors Program at Coastal Carolina University. [Honors Program](http://www.coastal.edu/honors/admission.html)

This school is below the radar of most CC posters. But, my bright niece will be going there. Plus, we just toured the campus last month and found it very pretty and comfortable.

True…Coastal is there…Myrtle Beach, so you MUST be self disciplined. In that regard, there is UNC Wilmington, Appalachian State and UNC-Asheville as well. All well regarded schools.

Can you try the ACT? Compared to my score on the SAT, my score on the ACT was 200 pts higher.
