My financial aid for this semester is greater than my student budget so I actually have a negative bill. So if I charge stuff to my bursar account (like food or flex) does that mean it will be paid off by my excess financial aid? If that’s the case, does it carry over to next year or do balances reset each year.

They mail you a refund check at your Duke post office address in the amount of the balance they owe you. You can then deposit it in your savings account or do whatever you want with it.

You can also have the negative balance held over and applied to the next semester. You have to request this of the Bursar, otherwise as bluedog said, they’ll just mail a check to the student’s Duke PO Box. This is useful if you are the parent and don’t want Duke to just mail your child a check to be used for spending money;-)

^I hope my dad doesn’t figure out how to do this…

That’s no fun. Don’t you realize your child needs that new Xbox?
