Negotiating for more financial Aid/Merit at Clark

Hi Everyone

I got great advice the last time I posted. In short: My daughter was accepted to both Dickinson and Clark University. The net cost for Dickinson was $6000 less per year than Clark after financial aid was awarded. My kiddo really wants to go to Clark. When I spoke to the financial aid person at Clark (who sounded very young and junior) I said something like: “my daughter just visited for accepted students day and really loved Clark. It’s her top choice because of x, y and z." She told me to do the financial aid appeal. I filed the appeal and was awarded $2000 per year extra in merit. I emailed the junior person and told her that unfortunately, $2000 wasn’t sufficient. She sent me a link with the exact same appeal form that I had already filled out and told me that I should fill it out again. I don’t have any new information to add to the original appeal.

Any ideas? I emailed the admissions officer who we have been in correspondence with and she said that the financial aid personnel are the ones I should be talking to.

Thanks for your input!

It could be rough at this point, but continue telling the story. Will your daughter be traveling to go to school? Will you need to stay in hotels? Will there be airfare? How many times each year? Find something…anything…to use to ask for a few thousand more. Will off campus housing be more expensive at Clark? Aim high and see if they will meet in the middle.
