Neighborhood next to campus - Q re Church & Chapel Street

Hi - I have heard how once you wander well off campus safety is a concern. Is the intersection of Church & Chapel Streets too far, or is that still basically next to campus? Would you be concerned at all going there? Thanks!

Church and Chapel is the main intersection in downtown new haven- near all the banks and government offices. it’s totally safe- people are out all hours of the day and night.

Basically safe around there.

Just saying ditto to add reassurance.

Thanks everyone for the info - that was a help!

There is a Starbucks on that corner that’s open later than just about any Starbucks in New York City, so I’d say it’s very safe. In the middle of the night, like 1 or 2 a.m., you would probably want to exercise the same kind of caution you would use in any city, town or rural area, because there are fewer people around. But from what I’ve seen, even at 3 or 4 in the morning there are always people around that area. There are million dollar condominiums for sale all over that part of the city.
