Any Richmond experts here?
Young professional looking for urban, safe, parking available (ideally onsite). Walkable to parks, restaurants, coffee, bars, etc. Some preference for converted loft type buildings.
So far considering Shockoe Bottom, Scott’s Addition, The Fan, Museum District, Church Hill. Interested in other to-the-west-of-downtown options in particular.
Going to visit in about a month, to get a feel but hopefully also look at actual apt buildings.
Thanks CC.
Scott’s Addition is really popular now. Lofts, breweries etc. Pretty cool little mixed industrial, commercial, residential area. I’ve always been partial to The Fan and the Museum District. Stick with Grove Ave north to Monument in both neighborhoods. I love the Carytown area too (shopping, bars, restaurants etc) though there may be a little more crime there given its a dense shopping area. Libbie/Grove (Westhampton) in the Near West end is beautiful but it’s on the City/County line which may or may not be too far out. Church Hill, in parts, is great, but you have to make sure you know your boundaries because it can get dicey. Same with the Northside. Nearby are Mosby, Gilpin, Fairfield, Creighton and Whitcomb Courts which are all housing projects that unfortunately have a lot of crime so you want to stay clear of those. South of the river is developing with some cool new condos with a great view of the skyline. It’s not as well established so you have to be a little more careful. There are a couple of condo buildings right downtown that are close to the river. They would make walking to work (if you work downtown), Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom easy. I really like Shockoe Bottom, but it can get a bit rough late night (night clubs etc). Shockoe Bottom has some really cool converted warehouses. Hope this helps!
