Nephew Excels at William and Mary

Can’t get the link to highlight, but I had to brag about my nephew. He is a junior at Willam and Mary and has just set some world weight-lifting records using his mind. We had no idea he was doing this, although he did say he was doing “some weight lifting.” He is a very special child in many ways.
If I had to use MY mind to lift weights, I would be in a world of hurt.

Totally cool!

Very. very special. We may hear his name again!

Agreed. So cool. Out here in old hippie land we would say he must be an old soul…

Alumother: Oh, did you peg him right! He has been interested in psychic phenomena since he was in elementary school. He sees aura’s, etc. I know he will get a big kick out of his summer in China. The twerp speaks fluent Mandarin–picked it up very quickly too.

China huh? I spend a lot of time over there for business. If he picked up Mandarin easily that sort of cinches the old soul theory. It’s a tough language to learn. Where will he be staying for the summer? For fun, let’s figure out where he came from in China in his previous life. Ask him these questions. What does he prefer, wheat or rice? Does he drink alcohol? Does he prefer mountains, desert, or oceans? Cold or hot? According to my colleagues, the answers will be telling.

He will be studying at the Harvard of China. Excuse my ignorance and my memory, I cannot remember the name of the school. I know he loves the ocean and skiing-not sure if water or mountains prevail. He doesn’t drink, and he loves rice. He would enjoy this exchange. I’ll call him tonight.

The Harvard of China is either Tsing Hua or Beijing University. They argue over it:). Ocean, no drinking, and rice argues for Southern China. However, the Mandarin argues for Northern. So as long as we’re being unashamedly woo woo bet it’s Shanghai area - sort of the middle. Has he been to China yet?

No, this will be his first trip. I think he visited Korea briefly with his father, but that was a business trip. This concept of old souls is so intriguing. I have always wondered how that ties in with biology–the passing of traits by genes. Picking up your ancestors’ genes and someone else’s soul seems so chaotic. We always wonder where Andrew came from. Our family is a real hodge podge of hillbillies, New England Irish cops and firefighters, teachers, Russian Jews, Swedes, and who knows what else. No scientists, but a few philosophical alcoholics.
I am thinking he is going to Tsing Hua, but I’ll check. Shanghai sounds reasonable. This has been fun.

Wow Pattykk—what an amazing kid!

Thanks, Poetsheart and all others. Yes, he is an amazing child. We have been so happy to see him blossom at William and Mary.

Two things:

Such great news! So happy to hear that your nephew is excelling, loving life, and all that good stuff.

(As always)… please, this should be required reading for those who are upset about not getting into Ivys (W&M is even a state school). Required reading in a “Look at this kid, he is so neat and smart and passionate - they are everywhere” way. :)

Wow, what an absolutely COOL kid!!! Wow. I am sooo impressed! You have a right to be proud of him.

I saw that article… I was quite interested / amazed. I don’t understand how that works really… using your mind to lift huge weight… drives me crazy thinking about it, lol.

Haven’t seen him in the weight room though =P

Try the yoga room??? Maybe you will bump into him in the weight room some time. I agree with you that using your mind to lift that much weight is difficult to understand and kind of scary.
We used to live in Burke. I have very fond memories of the Fairfax County school system. My kids were in elementary school at White Oaks and Bonnie Brae. Good soccer in Fairfax too.
