I hope this doesn’t come across as an annoyance, but this whole waiting process is really wrecking up my nerves. If anyone would be ever so kind as to give me their honest opinion on the likelihood of my acceptance, please feel free to post! I’d really like to know if I should keep my hopes up or change my mindset and focus on going to another school. Thank you in advance for calming a poor girl’s nerves.

–

Thanks again everyone.

Hey mogrimoogle, your SAT scores fall in the lower 25% of students at Rice, and your ACT score actually falls below the 25th percentile. The SAT II scores are not exactly stellar, and your APs don’t really show strong mastery of the material. None of your extracurriculars seem especially astounding, and to top it all off, you’re an Asian female. Although you may have a chance at Rice (especially due to unique family circumstances), I wouldn’t count on an acceptance.

This is one of the many examples of why “chance” threads are useless…or even harmful.

Mogri–no one but Rice admissions knows what your chances are! You’ve already applied, so just hold tight and good luck!

Thanks plumdum for the reply. It was a nice realistic perspective to have and all quite true in my opinion.

Thank you also BerkeleyMom. I’ve come to terms with just waiting it out but I guess I was just curious as to what others thought my odds were. Thanks for the good luck.
I’ll be balancing out my high hopes as well as facing the reality of my stats over the next couple of weeks.

I know what you mean about the jitters, but chance threads wont help at all… everybody here knows about as much as you do about who will get into Rice. It’s all out of your hands now, try to focus on things you can do, maybe look for some scholarships?

The thing is, people can tell you that your SAT score falls in the lower 25 percent among Rice students, but that really means that one out of four Rice students has an SAT score the same as or lower than yours.

I agree with BerkeleyMom and shimmshaw. Chances threads are completely pointless.

We all went through this whole process last year as well… I was very unsure about whether I was going to get into schools like Rice and many of its peer institutions, but I learned to wait it out. This is part of the college admissions process… you have to wait until late March till you get a decision. Every single college student has done that (except the ED students who didn’t had to wait as long).

Until late March rolls around, find something else to engage your mind and your interests. Have fun. I know you are anxious to get into college (especially Rice), but remember this is the last year you will be with your high school friends and teachers. Plus, relish this second semester when there is no pressure to do well because once you get to college, there is going to be a lot of pressure to succeed and its going to require a lot of work. Then, as I am now, you are probably going to think “why did I worry so much about getting into Rice after my application was already sent.”

These chance threads, as everyone else has stated, are useless. Not just yours, but every single chance thread on this CC board are pointless unless there are admissions officers answering them.

Just sit back, relax, and realize the admission decision is out of your control at this point. Best of luck to you!

Yeah, relax
i think you have a shot, but you should never put all your eggs in one basket.
