Nervous about ACT

What is the correct answer, and why is it the correct answer?

Rosie, it turns out, is a desert tortoise that my grandmother had “started raising” over twenty years ago.

Which of the following alternatives to the underlined portion would NOT be acceptable?
F)begun to raise
G)started to raise
H)started up raising
J)begun raising

I will not give the answer because I hate seeing people post questions with the answer right away, lowering my benefit from answering the question.

Bump 10 char

H.
Started up raising

I say that because the rest are acceptable.
Started up raising also doesn’t sound right at all.

You can’t start up raising something.

Here is a better way to look at it:
Change all of the verbs to present tense.

begin to raise – good
start to raise – good
begin raising – good

start up raising-- bad

bump 10 chaR

start up raising just sounds stupid in that context to me. What are you exactly worried about for the ACT?

My goal is to get 33+ and I only have a 32 and I’m really nervous about my Reading aCT(29)

Have you tried reading more challenging literature and practicing your grammar (I don’t know the difference between the English and Reading sections)? Try that and you should be good, I think.

I’ve been speed reading New York Time Articles.
