Hi there!

Umm, lessee.

First, a question: Are you planning on doing neuroscience for grad school? If so, know this: This will give you a great head start. You will be able to take classes that no one else (well, pretty much, except for those damned echols kids, bleh (-: ) can take. You’ll get first dibs at upper-level neuroscience courses. You will be introduced to concepts, labs, and procedures that will set you apart from plain-jane bio or chem or psych folks looking to do grad work.

Professors at UVA include:
David Hill http://faculty.virginia.edu/hilllab/hill.html
Masashi Kawasaki http://www.people.virginia.edu/~mk3u/mk_lab/index.htm
Otto Friesen http://minerva.acc.virginia.edu/biology/Fac/Friesen.html
DeForest Mellon http://minerva.acc.virginia.edu/biology/Fac/Mellon.html
Iggy Provencio http://minerva.acc.virginia.edu/biology/Fac/Provencio.html

Check them out. Also, check out the Neuroscience home page.

Here’s the thing: A neuroscience undergraduate program is pretty unususal. It is great for getting a good grounding in neuro-specific information. However, if you have other interests, you might want to combine it with another major, since it is really specific.

Is it good? Seems good to me. I haven’t seen rankings or anything, but the profs are good, labs do interesting work.
