Neuroscience at Yale

Is it possible to major in neuroscience at Yale? because I did not see that major on the list.

Or is it like psychology with a focus in neuroscience?

Unfortunately, Yale does not have a direct neuroscience program. However, as you mention there is the neuroscience track in the psychology department. In addition, look at the course offerings for the major in cognitive science. The biology major might also have a neuroscience or neurobiology track. Finally, if none of those suits your needs you can always design a neuroscience major.

How difficult is it to “design” your own major? Is it just a matter of taking courses in more than one department and having more than one advisor (like a dual major) or is it more complicated?

there is a neurobiology track within the MCDB major, and a behavioral neuroscience track within the Psych major.

I believe you have to do like a Psychology major and get a certificate in Neuroscience.

edit: basically what rd31 said

I’m also very interested in doing neuroscience in undergrad. How is a certificate different from a major?

You wouldn’t be able to design a major, because there are already programs for behavioral neuroscience and neurobiology. Special division majors are for disciplines that don’t have an established program. Both tracks (in the psych and MCDB dept, respectively), are fairly popular. “Tracks” at Yale mean that you take many of the same courses for the major, but substitute or add additional courses to specialize in a given area. You can see the requirements for each track under their associated majors at [Subjects of Instruction | Yale College Programs of Study](<a href=“Yale College”>Yale College)
