bumpity bump: just to let you guys know, the parents of "10 thread already has a list going of where everyone’s going…come on!!..I KNOW alot of your kids have already decided…

and us parents of "11 want to keep the 3.0-3.3 thread alive!!!

Haven’t seen that thread, Rodney? Unless you’re talking about the general one where the kids are going to Princeton and Yale. I was just reading that one…[sigh]

^^no, CCL it’s the parents thread with a HUGE amount of posts…various levels of schools…some of the posters on here are also on there (DougBetsy/Lafalum)…I’ll post on an edit…

I’m boycotting that list…lol. It would be one thing if it were just a list of colleges everyone is attending, so that maybe kids could meet or parents could share stories. But for some reason, some parents can’t bear to just list the school their kid is attending without including that they received a such-and-such scholarship. That makes it an official brag thread and I avoid those like the plague.

RTR: haha…I’m only referring to the “color” list…I didn’t see the individual brag sheets…it’s impossible to keep up with that thread anyway…it’s more like a 24/7 chat room…

Rodney, we definitely need to keep this thread alive for 2011. My d keeps fluctuating between just over 3.3 to solidly within! Some of the other threads stress me out!

^^wish we were that high; trying to hang onto a 3.1 (with an awful foreign language quarter)…btw, coming up your way on April 30th on the way to Ithaca…hopefully the weather will hold up; this is our third try!!!..my husband just cares about hitting the bookstore at BU

Quite a compilation, RTR! Yikes, exactly!! High stakes students/parents know better than to post their kids scores online. Plenty of lurkers here scouting the threads. I once had someone post a reply to something heartfelt I had written about my older son’s trials and tribulations starting off his first year in college…he said, ‘Hey, I think I know that kid.’ I almost died instantly from shock. I actually left CC for many months after that happened.
I think having a 3.0-3.3 Accepted Students list is a grand idea! We don’t brag either, we just thank the heavens for these colleges for seeing the wonderful gifts of our kids, too!

I agree that we parents of Juniors need to keep this thread up or maybe start a new one after you senior parents jump ship. Although I post on the HS parents class of 2011 thread, there seem to be lot’s of high achieving kids there. I need a place to talk about normal colleges. ;)

R2R you gave my my first laugh of the day. If my D (in hs class of 09) had earned that kids “nightmare” Math score we would have been thrilled. If DS get close to 500 well…I get your point ;)

Honestly, I really wanted my son to be in a different position than he is, but it just didn’t happen that way. I’m still very proud of him, however, and am glad to know that there are other parents with similar experiences and feelings.

I’m guessing that if I met some of you in person, we’d hit it off nicely.

Gweeta, I think your son has been accepted to some solid schools. I am not sure I understand. You don’t feel that the schools he was accepted to aren’t “good” schools? Were you hoping that he got into higher tiered schools?

Rtr…love those quotes!!! Haha! I also don’t begrudge people their success but sometimes I think these parents and kids have absolutely no idea how high performing these kids are. I feel sorry for the parents who seem to view anything other than perfect sat scores and straight a’s as some sort of failure. I feel even worse for their kids for getting that message from their parents.

True, holliesue, although of course wherever you set the bar, kids can react badly to being told they’ve fallen short. I think we’ve been very reasonable with our son–we’ve never been anything but positive about any grade that’s at least a straight B. B-, C+, the reaction is kind of “OK, let’s see if you can pull it up next term,” and it’s only a straight C or worse that gets a real “what happened here?” kind of reaction. But that doesn’t stop our son from claiming that we put too much pressure on him.

gweeta, the first paragraph of your last post (#3095) sums up my feelings exactly. And BTW, it looks like our son is going to Goucher, unless a return visit next week unexpectedly sours him on the place.
