New Amazing Race Season starts FRIDAY, September 26!!! Season Thread

Drat! Non-elimination round. Like noted above I would have at least, liked them to lose that save. This week’s “challenges” were just ok, I’m a bit bored this season. Come on TAR, shake it up!

Three generations of my family now watch the show every Friday night. That leaves me channel surfing every Sunday hoping to find a good movie or something. I’m sure it will pick up soon.

Finally watched Friday’s episode! Those dentists really saw how the little mistakes can totally eat you up! Was a LITTLE disappointed that it was non-elim though and that they got to save their “save”. Also give the guy a little credit, he never seemed to lose his cool. A couple of shots of his eyes bugged out - CREEPY!!! affraid

Good for the cyclists. They deserved the win. They were smart to bring extra frosting with them on the bike.

The wrestling couple seem…not too bright!

Yes. Dear flight attendant young woman from Detroit, in front of Phil, at the mat, is not the time to fall apart and air your dirty laundry about you and your mom’s relationship!!

Anyone else disappointed that there’s no despicable team to root against this season? That’s usually part of the fun!

The more I thought about this last episode, the more I thought this…even thought it was a non-elimination round, the dentist’s did not know that, and offered up their save. That should have stuck, and been greeted with an “are you certain you want to give up your save?” at which point they would’ve nodded or panted or whatever, and then AFTER giving it up (kind of like Who Wants to be a Millionaire…is that your final answer) told it had been a non-elimination round. Oh well.

I really miss it on Sunday nights. I have forgotten to DVR the last two Fridays so I have had to wait until it is “on demand” on Monday or Tuesday. So finally watched yesterday.

So do you think the dentists have veneers? Their teeth look fake. I don’t really hate any of the teams, but I don’t really care for them. Just overall too fake, and the guy is too buff, I don’t like that look. I was hoping they would at least lose their save.

I am rooting for the surfers. The surfer-dude is REALLY attractive. And so sweet to Bethany.

I think I would have really struggled with the sandwich challenge.

Woah! My head is spinning after this episode, which was by far the best of the season! I now have higher hopes for the rest of the season.

That surfer couple is growing on me, and I really like the bicycle girls and the scientists.

I think I have to re-watch this episode - there was so much going on. I’m a-ok with the eliminated team, although I did hope for a different outcome.

Yes, that head spinning thing was hilarious to watch.

The surfers have a bit of a key strategy - taking a LITTLE extra time to figure out how to tackle a challenge rather than start it scattered and hurried. Congrats to the girl bikers but was also hoping the surfers might edge them out.

Dentist wife seemed a little off/unmotivated this episode. How many times did she ask her H, “what can I do/should I do” etc. - but kept doing NOTHING!? Was it in the clue that they had to hold the tea tray with one hand or was that just what they were suppose to observe the tea staff doing?

My mom is from Morocco so it was cool to see the footage there - though don’t think those were the conditions that she lived in 60 years ago!!!

Fine to see the survivor couple go - my D said that the woman was also featured on Say Yes To The Dress - so I guess that they probably have the cash to pay for the honeymoon.

I think on the tea serving task, they had to observe how it was done. The dentist wife has now missed key things 2 weeks in a row (last week she missed that you had to say the sandwich number, in addition to the ingredients).

I think the mother/daughter team made a mistake u-turning the survivor couple. They were already behind, so it served no strategy to u-turn them. They seemed to do it more out of spite/revenge than strategy, which isn’t how you should play the game. They knew the dentists still had their save, so it would’ve made more strategic sense to u-turn them and make them burn their save.

YES! I so badly wanted the dentists to “burn their save” - that would only given them one more chance to not be eliminated. I can’t stand them. He has the creepiest eyes I’ve seen.

Abasket- a good surfer knows to stand and watch the waves for a few sets before dashing in. I think that might help them as it does seem to be their strategy.

EXACTLY!!! Flush out that save, and level the playing field the rest of the way. The save has WAY too much power–it’s making the game a little less interesting. Last season Survivor had a super-immunity idol that could be played after the votes, and it had the same effect–made the end a foregone conclusion.

I don’t mind the save. I am a little surprised that they allowed it to be used up until the 9th leg, though. They’ve introduced extra little factors like this through the years to keep things interesting, I suppose, e.g., the yield, the intersection, the fast forward, the express pass, the u-turn, the speed bump.

Wasn’t it interesting how Phil announced at one point with a team (was it the dentists??) “The dentists are now 12 minutes behind the rest of the pack” (don’t remember the exact wording) - little touches, but like these new Phil additions!

Re: mother/daughter team not choosing the dentists for the U-turn. I cannot remember all the details at that moment in the show but I swear I remember my daughter saying something like, “oh, so they choose to u-turn the Survivor couple because at that point they don’t know if the dentists have already arrived at the u-turn spot or not” - were the dentists on a different challenge at that point, not visable to the m/d???

I believe the dentists were on a different challenge, but the survivor couple was on the same challenge as the mother/daughter team, so they knew they were already behind them. They wasted their u-turn by using it on them. They could’ve just as easily taken the chance that the dentists hadn’t reached the u-turn yet and use it on them. They were angry at the survivor couple and that’s the reason they u-turned them.

I’m behind a bit but caught up last night!!!

Well, the mother and daughter weren’t going to last forever!

That last task the walking the bridge/ziplining/puzzle - wow they made the walking the bridge look so easy! That would have been the end of me.

While I will ALWAYS enjoy each episode of AR, my D and were talking about this season is lacking the “entertainment” factor in the couples. No Chippendales. No Mirna and Smirna. (several seasons back!) All we have are a couple of semi-goofy pro wrestlers!

GREAT episode! My heart was pounding as they did the go-karts, I was hoping they were going slower than it appeared! But how fun that might be!

I was laughing so hard when the bicycle girls were writing on the dentist’s car thinking “well NOW they (the dentists) know how these girls feels about them” - then within moments they were sharing a cab and dancing before (what looked like) dinner!

I liked the outcome, but I can’t stand that the dentists still have their free pass.

I had forgotten that the surfers have an express pass. I was a little worried about them this episode.

I actually thought this episode was not very eventful. The go-karts was pretty cool - and the scenery amazing - but I think the show spent 20+ mins on teams at the travel agency and sleeping at the airport.

That painting task would have drove me whacko. The heat combined with the closeness to the ceiling and all those people working - a panic attack for me for sure!!!

Getting quite tired of the dentists placing first. Always makes me wonder, if I was in their place…and I knew we were likely first and another team was VERY close behind (like the cyclists) would I pause and let them claim a prize and a first place??? I like to think I might!

I was very afraid that the surfers were going to be eliminated. I kept yelling at the TV “use your express pass!”.

abasket—the husband is WAY to competitive to do what you have suggested. Guy definitely had been on steroids–extractlng teeth doesn’t build up those kind of muscles!!
