New Amazing Race Season starts FRIDAY, September 26!!! Season Thread

I didn’t mind the scientists, but I really liked the surfers. The container challenge seemed brutal. In hindsight it probably would have been better if Adam did the memory challenge, but there is no way to know that. Since the only team I really didn’t want to win was the dentists I guess I am glad for the twist.

I read an article that said that it took Amy 5 hours to do that final challenge. It might have been better if Adam had done it but he couldn’t because he had done the earlier one, according to the clue. It probably would have been better if Jim had been able to do it, too, as Misti had had difficulty with memory tasks earlier in the season. Who knows. At least it wasn’t a cab driver who determined the winner!

Yay for the Sweet Scientists! Way to represent UW-Madison!

Maya is a Carleton undergrad, so we were rooting for her!

I would be willing to bet that the surfers will be back the next time there is an allstar season.

I hope so.

I knew that Adam couldn’t do the challenge, but I think it would have been better if Bethany had done the stunt man challenge so that Adam could have done the challenge. But of course hindsight is 20/20. I do hope to see them again because they are fun to watch.

I’m positive the surfers will be back for an all-star season, and also the cyclists!

Those memory challenges are usually more interesting to watch because they usually have more to do with matching up items with the legs where they happened. This was just running around looking for names of cities and then putting the corresponding numbers in order. The only thing that made it difficult, other than the physical activity of running around that container yard, was not being able to write anything down.

I was watching the episode last night finally, and 3/4 of the way through, as the Wrestler’s were being eliminated - after cheering - it suddenly dawned on me it was the FINALE. There I was with 16 minutes left, and I got so excited I couldn’t stand it. THEN Maya and Amy (Candy Girls) were faced with a challenge so daunting (I heard Mr. Dr. Dentist say “how long have we been here now, 5 hours?”) and all I could think was THIS is the challenge that will break the dentists (based on the previous challenge where Mrs. Dr. Dentist struggled with memorizing menu items) and that MAYBE the surfers could win (based on the way she was “singing” her answers, which just happened to be the way I taught my D to spell when she was a kid), BUT I just KNEW that if the Candy Girl could FIND all of her answers she wouldn’t struggle at all. I literally was clapping at the end! I am so delighted for these two. Never bragged, never were cut throat, just supportive and (mostly) gracious throughout the race even with injuries. I am truly happy for them. No, they were never a “strong” team, and I don’t think they ever won a leg, but slow and steady, and keeping your ego in check clearly worked for them! Bring on the next season!

Also, rememver the alliance that the candy girls upheld but the wrestlers, I think, didn’t. Karma and all that.

It was the wrestlers who reneged, right?

Yes, the wrestlers reneged on their alliance, and wasn’t it also the wrestlers that sent the Candy Girls on a wild goose chase looking for a clue that was right near where they were? Karma is indeed a beach!

Just watched the episode (I stayed away from the thread until now). Everyone knew a memory task would favor the scientists. The difference was that Amy got it correct on the first try. I still wonder why the producers made it a 4team final.

I don’t like the blind date aspect of the next race. It seems like they’re trying to make the show more like those horrible reality shows I don’t watch.

Am so glad the wrestlers didn’t win. It didn’t really matter much which of the other teams won for me - but I was glad it was the scientists. The wrestlers complaining that the scientists didn’t get eliminated the previous leg was a hoot - the girls didn’t make up the rules!

Meant to ask this - does anyone know how long the last challenge actually took? Did I hear someone say hours? And how far behind the scientists were the dentists? Are we talking minutes or hours?

Just found an interview with the dentists and they said that the challenge actually took about 2 1/2 hours and that they were 30 min behind the scientists and the surfers were about 30 minutes behind them. http://www.seattlepi.com/entertainment/tv/tvguide/article/Amazing-Race-s-Misti-and-Jim-We-Succumbed-to-5975501.php
