New Amazing Race Season starts FRIDAY, September 26!!! Season Thread

Yeah tx5athome the jitney ride to nowhere was funny. I guess they forgot to ask the driver where he was going. That wiped the toothy grins off of their smug faces in a hurry.

Amazing Race ought to build a theme park so fans could go and try a few legs. Divide it into Beginners, Intermediate, and Expert courses so everyone can participate.

“The Whole Theme Park is Waiting. GO!!”.

^^^ Great idea!

Really great idea TonyK!

They would have around 500 tasks to 1,000 tasks to choose from for the park. Rotate them annually so teams will want to come back again. Beginners would try easier tasks and visit countries in the park where they all speak English. Experts would find all of the tasks difficult and nobody speaks English. Experts bungee jump and Beginners do an easy zip line.

They must have used 50 to 100 vehicles of transport from all of the countries they have been to. Make the first leg non-elimination and use American tasks to get everyone used to it. When teams get eliminated they can watch the rest of the competition if they choose.

What should the winners receive?

A gnome.

^ ^ ^
Haha!

My wife and I were very confused by the first jeepney rides. I just went to cbs.com to double check it. The clue, as the scientists read it, said to get a jeepney at one station and then change jeepneys at another station to get to the next clue at the park. We didn’t think while watching it originally that the surfers and wrestlers went to those stations first and it wasn’t clear to us if the dentists and scientists did it properly either before deciding they were going the wrong direction. We thought at the time that there may be penalties assessed at the mat.

I’m wondering if that’s why the scientists weren’t eliminated. It could have been a production screw-up where penalties weren’t assessed or the production crew felt the clue wasn’t clear enough and so they just decided on the fly to not eliminate anyone. Assessing penalties against all 4 teams if none did it completely right wouldn’t have changed the order of finish and would have penalized the dentists and scientists for perhaps coming closer to having done it right.

You could be right. I erased my tape so unfortunately can’t check it. I thought two teams hopped aboard a jeepney heading in one direction. Then the next two teams arrived and asked the driver or passengers how to get to a certain place. They were told to go across the street to catch one heading in the other direction.

We deleted it from the DVR after watching it too. But full episodes can be viewed at cbs.com starting a day after the episode airs.

<a href=“The Amazing Race (Official Site) Watch on CBS”>http://www.cbs.com/shows/amazing_race/

The dentists and scientists asked the drivers how to get to the station and hopped on in one direction. The surfers and wrestlers asked drivers how to get to the park and were told to go to the other side of the road and hopped a jeepney in the other direction. In the jeepney the dentist talked about that they were heading to the station to get another jeepney. Then someone asked the driver where the park was and they were told it was in the other direction. So both teams crossed the road at that point, so I don’t think they followed the clue instructions to completion either.

But if they all violated the clue then they could apply or void the penalty but it wouldn’t affect the outcome (since they all would get a penalty at the end) - so scientists would still be last??

I follow AR on Twitter - went back and read some of the live tweets from Phil during the show Friday night (I avoid his tweets usually on show night because we watched tape delayed…) His words below - interesting that he doesn’t always know who is going to show up on the mat and that he himself receives text updates from his crew!!!

" Right now I’m at the mat. No idea who will show up first. Staying up to date with texting updates but always exciting when its this close."

I made that point above, but equal penalties would penalize the dentists and scientists more because they at least started out following the directions. The other two teams were only in the lead because they violated the directions from the get-go.

Woohoo!

No words. I’m quite ticked off at the show. A twist at the end like that of a final four…that’s kind of like false advertising to the teams. I know they sign up and have to expect whatever but…the scientists never won a race leg for a reason - they just weren’t a top notch team.

This episode started out very intense - and then I felt like someone punctured a whole in the show and the air slowly let out the second that Phil walked out at the movie set - so anticlimatic for all - the wrestlers and the viewers to just have their task…end abruptly.

Had to be a very hard moment for the wrestlers at that pit stop to watch the scientists come in. Also didn’t care for the snark of sorts from the one scientist at the airport - OF COURSE the teams aren’t going to welcome you!!! What did you think would happen?!

None the less, ALWAYS will look forward to the next season.

Eh, not much of a finale. That last challenge was a dud. I have nothing against the candy girls dealing with the rules as they were given, not their fault, but it felt like a weak win. Next season should be interesting with the blind date couples.

Blind date couples??? I didn’t see any next season previews…

It seems that the previous leg was pointless and the finale could have been very exciting if it had been produced better. Now I wish I had paid more attention to the candy girls in the earlier shows.

I admit I had no sadness with the wrestlers getting eliminated, especially her. As I’ve mentioned before, I think there were real weaknesses in most of the teams this season. Many mistakes made by several of the teams. I still think that the cyclists were stronger than any of the final four but the strongest team doesn’t always win. I wasn’t disappointed that the scientists won.

The next season begins in February and all teams will be dating, with 5 teams meeting for the first time at the beginning of the first leg on ‘blind dates’.

The longer you stay in the race, the more chance/opportunity that you are going to make a mistake.

Alwaysamom, do you feel that either the dentists or the surfers had “real weaknesses”???

No offense, but the “blind date” thing sounds REALLY corny!!!

abasket, yes, I did feel that both of those teams had weaknesses. There were several instances of making mistakes with directions and/or misreading clues. It really was a toss-up who would win tonight, though, as all three teams were at the container task together. The girls got it right on their first try and the other two teams didn’t. That really is what it came down to.

I think the blind date thing sounds kind of silly, too, although I think we’ve discussed once or twice here what it would be like to be racing with someone you don’t know. The thing is that not all teams will be ‘blind date’ teams so it should be interesting to see if that makes a difference.
