I didn’t get the no new song thing either. Seems to me that most of these people have been singing for years and they must know more than a handful of songs - and that is a world class band there - they should be able to adapt…

I fell asleep for some reason last night and completely missed idol. Woke up at 8 and was complaining to my husband that he let me miss ghostwhisperer (which is on fridays - no I hadn’t been drinking). What a relief that Tatiana did not go through. Did she do the whole dramatic crying thing again

AI is making Tatiana look crazier for its own purposes. Notice how when she was less emotional a couple of weeks back they were goading her. I wish they’d drop all the “drama” and just have a singing contest!

Yes. You all should vote for Anoop. I just learned from an acquaintance of ours that Anoop is his nephew.

I just saw him last week for the first time and didn’t think he was that great.

In case anyone is interested, the theme for this week is Michael Jackson songs!

I love MJ songs! MJ himself, not so much…

Didn’t one of the judges chide one of the contestants for choosing a MJ song in one of the past episodes?

They are always on to the contestants about “song choice”. I was hoping AI would do away with the theme weeks this time.

Songs of Michael Jackson…jeeze. I predict a total train wreck but it will be fun to watch. Most of them are going to sound terrible…

I never understand choosing songs like those for them. I guess it tells us that the show is trying to appeal to us baby boomers. I guess we’ll be seeing Neil Diamond and Dionne Warwick nights too.

With all of Simon’s lip service about being relevant, why do they pick songs/songwriters from 20 years ago?

Neil Diamond was done last season. Is it coincidence that Neil just released a new album?

There’s always Barry Manilow. I think they should do a “one hit wonder” themed night.

They’ve had many old-timers as mentors - Barry Gibb, Tony Bennett!, Peter Noone, Neil Diamond, Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie, Neil Sedaka, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Rogers, and yes, cartera, Barry Manilow! I’m sure I’m forgetting some others.

I do keep watching but I’ve learned two things about the show over the years:

1) that the judges comments are incredibly inconsistent.

2) that no matter how much they say that it is, this show has never truly been about finding the best singer.

Michael Jackson night? This is going to be a strange night.

Lil did a good job and I agree with Simon regarding her outfit. The outfit wasn’t awful but it wasn’t great. Her voice on the other hand, has always been strong.

Scott: I’ve never heard that Michael Jackson song. It was a bit corny but his fans will continue to vote for him.

I like Lil - didn’t like what she was wearing.

Scott is just not a great singer - he always sounds a tad flat to me.

Paula seems particularly loopy tonight.

Lil has a great voice, but I just don’t see her winning. I don’t really want to listen to her on the radio that much.

Scott needs to find some consonants. Love his piano though.

Again, I’m not impressed with Jazmine. She doesn’t seem to have much personality and her voice isn’t original at all. She’s boring. A girl her age should be up on stage oozing with energy and fun but I haven’t seen that from her yet.

This kid is as cute as a button. I could see him in a boy band.

This is the first time that I’ve really paid any attention to this kid (Kris). I really liked the fact that he changed the song to fit his style and it worked. He did a good job.

Do you think Paula’s wearing enough make up?
