New American Idol thread

and its a number one song!

I didn’t see the beginning; did someone other than Jorge go home?

Jasmine got sent home too.

Me too nysmile. I guess I’m just getting old, but any song with this title— " My Life would Suck Without You" doesn’t quite sit right with me, sorry. And I don’t think Kelly Clarkson would make it to the top of this current group (she didn’t sound too good).

The title may seem strange, but I think the tune is very catchy - one of those songs you can’t get the chorus out of your mind.

I have to ask, what the heck was up with that performance (and I use the term loosely) by Kanye West? None of the judges or contestants were there, and he was just downright awful. What was the point?

Filler, I don’t even watch the results shows anymore. I just check in here to find out  Or maybe at the end of the show as it gets close to the end. So I’m good as long as someone is watching and reporting back.

Well, it’s unanimous :). I hated Kelly’s song. I hated Kanye, and assumed it just meant I’m irrelevant ;). Glad to hear I’m not alone; at least among the over-30’s.

I mourned Jorge’s departure, but was not surprised. And he sang terribly for his good-bye song - nerves or disappointment, I assume.

I also hate the results show. So I tune in a little late and skip through not just the commercials but as much of the nonsense as possible - last night that included most of Kanye and a lot of Kelly C, once I realized what a loser song hers was going to be.

Kanye’s performance was not live - it was pre-taped earlier in the day - thus no judges and no audience - just a set up mosh pit.

Kanye doesn’t need the judges or an audience…he needs all that extra room for his ego. (Not a fan. Can you tell?)

^That’s a good one about Kanye. I thought Jorge was better than Anoop (is that his name?). Also Jasmine was better than the blonde girl who sang that old Jackson 5 song. But alas, it was up to the voters. I’m a little confused about the judges saving someone. I also do not watch the results. Can they save someone each week? Are they going to have a bottom two every week?

I think the judges might need to save Paula.

The way I understand it, the judges have only ONE save between them and it is for the rest of the season. They can only use the SAVE if the judges are unanimous. This week, they chose not to use the SAVE. I wonder who they’re saving it for?

cartera, that’s a good one. I think you may be right.

nysmile, yes, it’s just once that they can use the ‘save’, which seems to be a whole lot of hype over relatively little. There was no way that they were going to use it this early(ten weeks of shows to go!), particularly with the ones who were going home. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing for the judges to have some input, but I think they should have more than one shot at it. I think they’re thinking back to ridiculous results from past seasons when people like Jennifer Hudson and Tamyra Gray were sent home early and were clearly far better contestants than the ones who the general public voted for that week. If we see Danny or Allison in danger of being eliminated, you can bet the save will be used.

How late can the judges use that save? Surely not at the very end?

They said that it is only available until the last 5 shows…not after that.

Boy, CC is better than combing through the official website. Thanks for all the info.

I also did not watch AI last night, but I knew I could always rely on CC :). My local paper has a very detailed recap of the last night’s show:
[“American Idol” reveals twist, cuts field down to 11](http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/american-idol/2009/03/11/spoiler_alert_live_blogging_to_2.html?cmpid=2628</a>)

I like our paper - the American Idol TV column is titled “we watch so you don’t have to”

I should have been a little more clear, cpt, sorry about that. They are able to use the save up until the final five are set, so that means it will be available for six more shows. This is another reason that I think it’s a bit silly, particularly since they specifically mentioned Chris Daughtry and Tamyra Gray in the promotional info. Chris and Tamyra were both eliminated in fourth spot so it wouldn’t have saved them. It would have saved Jennifer Hudson (which would have been much deserved) and Michael Johns (less so).
