New American Idol thread

I thought the schmaltz factor was really high tonight in terms of the songs picked. And I am still trying to figure out what “you dare to dance in the path of greatness” means.

Nothing Paula says makes any sense. The only thing I enjoy less than her is the awful results night group performance opening. Reminds me of Miss America.

I think Matt. Lil, and Allison will be bottom 3.

Allison’s outfit was, once again, horrible. I thought she looked like something evil out of a Harry Potter book. Kind of clownish, kind of sinister. I just didn’t think she was that good.

I loved the middle part of Lil’s song and wish she would have done a gospel thing for the entire song.

Matt wasn’t up to par tonight.

Anoop is surprising me. He seems to be taking this more and more seriously.

Adam bores me. He’s become predictable–oh yeah, Adam’s up, expect something wild. Just my opinion though.

Kris–beautiful. I think the judges were way off with him.

Danny–I really hated to see him without the glasses. It made me think he’s starting to “sell out” for votes.

I enjoyed Tarentino’s comments. It was interesting to hear a director’s comments on their perfomances. My feeling is that a performance is a performance whether it be in front of a movie camera or on a stage. When he told Danny to stop putting his energy into his hands and let it go to his eyes…dead on.

Adam boring? Maybe predictable: heads and shoulders above the others!

Adam rocked it! I am amazed at his voice. When anyone else would hurt my ears as screaming, he still makes it music.
Allison is really stepping up. She has some voice.
Danny looked really cute without the glasses, but there was something off in the beginning of the song.
I feel bad for Matt, it just did not work. I think he will be in the bottom 3. I am not sure on who else since I think the voters may again keep the women and split among all those guys. So I am worried about Danny and Kris.
It looked like Stevie Van Zandt (sp) from the E Street Band was in the audience along with Couric.
I did not think it was fair to the contestants to have only 2 judges opinions. Why can’t they each limit their comments to one sentence.

Perhaps limit the 15 minute intro, Ryan walking down the stairs, judges parading in, Tarantino promo, etc.

Or just let Simon talk. No one cares about the other judges, anyway.

Yes the self-promotion is a bit much! Perhaps they will go back to all 4 commenting when the field is down to 7 or 6. And if Paula takes just a little bit more medication, she will not be able to say anything.

I agree if they could just stop Paula from talking and talking and talking, we could hear from all four. Or when she and Simon give each other looks, and then argue; they each are entitled to their opinion, but they don’t have to argue.

The intro is too long; I fast forward Tivo through that; a reason why this family can not live without Tivo!

Can anyone tell me a good place to find videos of performances? I’ve been looking on YouTube, but all I find are self-produced fan tributes using the downloaded music, not the actual performances. Thanks.

I wished that Adam had done Live and Let Die. He has a very Axel Rose quality to his voice. Axel Rose is a nutjob but he can sing. I think that Adam has a great rock voice.

I liked Anoop and Kris (and Adam, he could sing the phone book and Wild Thing was kind of the phone book to me). Did not like Lil, no one should ever sing The Rose no matter what! Sorry but I didn’t like Allison or Matt. Don’t have any idea who is going to go, this should be interesting.

I enjoyed Adam, Kris, and Anoop last night. I thought they all did a great job, I think Anoop was my favorite! What a beautiful voice he has. The others were blah to me, although I do like Matt so I hope he doesn’t go home.

My bottom three would be Lil, Allison, Danny.

I would say goodbye to Lil.

I think it’s ridiculous that they are splitting the judging. I really hope that Kara does not come back next season. She adds nothing to the judging and her singsong manner of speaking is incredibly annoying.

YDS, I have located a site called “bashhh” which seems to have performance videos. Google “The Bashhh” and you should come up with it. Then do a search on that site for Adam Lambert. That’s the only one I’ve tried and I saw his live performance of both Mad World and Born to Be Wild.

I think Adam, Kris and Anoop were the best last night. I didn’t think Allison sounded as good as she has before. I thought the judges were too easy on her. My D (who is a singer) and I still think she is screaming her songs and wrecking her voice.

I think Lil or Matt will probably be going home tonight.

Adam reminds me more of Freddy Mercury than Axl Rose. Freddy had a much more operatic quality to his voice. More trained. I adore Axl, by the way. Which says all you will ever need to know about me!

Thank you, momof3sons!!! Just what I wanted – the performances without the drivel.

OK, my take:

Anoop: Wow. I know he’s been a fan favorite, but I never liked him until this performance. He was great.
Allison: Started great and then went quickly downhill. I love that song, btw.
Adam: Uh, interesting and good. Yes, we know he can sing, but he’s gotten predictably unpredictable, if you know what I mean.
Danny: Like him w/out the glasses, but I hate that song. He was only OK. I thought it a little cheesey how he looked up to heaven on his last “endless love.”
Lil: Ugh. That was just bad. Hate the song, the song choice, she was off-key. Blech.
Kris: Interesting choice. A little pitchy, but I thought he was great. However, I have a crush on him so you can disregard anything I say about him. He’s my David Cook for this year, although my David Cook crush was less innocent than my love for Kris, if you kwim.
Matt: Um. not good.

zoosermom, definitely more Freddy Mercury than Axel Rose. I agree. But although I love Adam’s voice sometimes I think that he make bizzare song choices. Of course he can sign the crap out of anything, I just wish that he would sing something that was closer to a Queen or Guns and Roses Song.

Youdon’tsay…videos here…just scroll down a bit:

[Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud](Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud)

That’s exactly what I’d love to see.

How 'bout Killer Queen? I’d find that hilarious and in-your-face! Which is a quality that I admire greatly.

Everyone was boring last night, except for Adam & Anoop. I usually like Alison, but she was a little off last night.

I loved Adam. He is really something different. There are two live performances of him on youtube that are amazing. One is from Brigadoon, where his voice is so beautiful, I think he could be an opera star. The other is so completely at the opposite end of the spectrum that it’s hard to believe it is the same person. It’s a performance from the Zodiac Show, called Crawl Through the Fire, and is an original composition of his. I can’t believe how talented this guy is.

I am just wild about Adam. I think he’s incredibly gifted and special. whether he wins or not, I can’t wait to see what he does. His parents must be so proud.
